Dead Space 3 is already getting blasted for being more action-oriented than previous installments, and now we're getting a better look at how the weapons upgrade system in the game will work. The first two games had benches at which you could upgrade your various weapons, but you followed a few paths and in general most people with end up with the same weapons. One player might have favored the Ripper over the Pulse Rifle or vice versa, but in general there was not a lot of wild variation.

With the new weapon bench in Dead Space 3, however, there's a lot of room for variation and experimentation. With this bench, you can create weapons from scratch and create numerous different combos to make all sorts of wacky weapons. You can make a Ripper with an under-slung Flamethrower, for instance, or vice versa. You can even make a rifle with flaming bullets. You'll also be able to easily share the blueprints for the weapons you create with your co-op partner.

And you can also name your weapons, it appears. Either that or there really is a gun in the game called The Jesus & Mary Chain Gun.
