Dead Island on Wal-Mart shelves early?

This is definitely curious. Dead Island by Techland isn't set to come out till September 6th, but already, it's been spotted on Wal-Mart shelves.

Buzz has been strong on the Internet of sightings of the game's copies on sale. Not content with just hearsay, some folks actually went sleuthing in-stores to find out for themselves.

This is what they found:

As you can see, both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Dead Island are clearly on shelves already, behind a protective glass casing. It does not, however, have a price tag under it, so it could very well just mean that the store already has it, and that it will be available for purchase soon.

Dead Island went gold last month, all ready for its release next week. If you're using PC for it, might as well check out now if your specs are wired for this particular game.

Dead Island was shipped from our distributor in an unmarked case, which is fairly unusual for a new game, but usually indicates a lack of hard street date.
