Dead Island had an absolutely awesome launch due to a great ad campaign. There was that great trailer that wowed even those outside video game fandom, then a steady stream of commercials that were omnipresent for a while on TV. The game came out in September and has been quietly moving a lot of units. Aubrey Norris, Deep Silver's Manager of Marketing and PR, told Game Informer that they've shipped 3 million copies of the game and that it has sold "very, very well over the holiday season."

OK, so shipping 3 million units isn't the same as selling 3 million units, but it looks like Dead Island is a certifiable hit for developers Techland. Not bad for a co-op zombie smashing game. Now, if they could just get Call of Juarez back on track...

Have you been playing Dead Island? If not, do you think you'll be getting it this holiday season?

Shipping 3 million units means that retailers want to have this game stocked. Doesn't mean it'll sell, but trust me .. no retailer wants too much of any stock!

This game was great in the beginning. But after a while the repetition of meleeing gets boring. Not even 2 months later would I have been still playing it. There's a reason the game shipped 3 million units and now the retailers selling it for about $30 USD.

Infact, just last week I just realized they released the Bloodbath Arena , started downloading but before I started I played the game again, got bored in 10 minutes. Cancelled my limited edition download. I was already expecting this before I got the game.
