Capcom, the company behind Mega Man and Proto Man has partnered up with Epic-Scents.  Epic-Scents is a subsidiary of a major fragrance company out of Danbury. They have released some air fresheners in an ode to Mega Man and Proto Man.

According to Jim Kavanaugh who is directing the project at Epic Scents, “We don’t want Mario to smell like a plunger or Mega Man to smell like Metal… we want to express who the character is in the same way we try to express who we are.”

Both Capcom and Epic-Scents are relying on character air fresheners to further brand video game loyalty amongst its fan base.

Bedoukian Research, the parent company to Epic-Scents is using extensive research methods and testing amongst several groups to help pin down the scent gamers and prospective buyers are looking for.

Mega Man was released back in the late 1980's and is about Mega Man, a young robot trying to clean up a laboratory.  But instead Mega Man winds up protecting the head of the lab.

The $2.99 air fresheners for Mega Man and Proto Man are available through Amazon and Thinkgeek. Epic-Scents plans on releasing more video game air-fresheners in the future.  Possibly in the likeness of Thunder Cats and Street Fighter characters.

Will you be picking up one of these scents?

Ya, really! Only one Sega Genesis game of Mega Man and that was Mega Man - The Wily Wars.

Mega Man was pretty much on Nintendo's. Loved Mega Man 4.
