Black Ops II Beats Halo on Xbox Live Stats |

November was an incredible month for gamers on Xbox Live. Two of the year's biggest games launched within a week of each other, beginning first with Halo 4, and ending with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops II just a few weeks ago. Both of these shooter titles have been trying to win the title as the best in their respective genre, and it seems like as of right now the results are in for the month of November.

When it comes to Xbox Live at least, Major Nelson is reporting that overall the service had more hours logged for Call of Duty than it did for Halo 4. By how much of a margin this victory comes has yet to have been reported specifically, but it really is quite telling considering the alien based title had a one week head start on Black Ops. As of this very moment in time then, it seems that gamers are digging the new modes and maps found in Activision's game more than what has been newly redesigned by 343 studios.
Such a ranking begs us to ask the question of why. Still before you jump all over me, let me be the first to admit that anything I say from here on out is pure speculation. In general, it might be possible that gamers have really begun to move on slightly from Microsoft's flagship franchise. After all, five years separated Halo 3 from Halo 4, and while there were other side story games put out in between, it's possible that a small segment of the audience may be losing interest. Another thing that CoD has working for it is the multi-platform factor. Now I know you can't play across consoles, but either way more of your friends have the ability to get it. With that wider span comes bigger press, and with bigger press comes greater hype.
Certainly being number 2 in the list is no slouch in the least, and so far Halo 4 has been an absolute smash. Still, it is surprising to see the 360's biggest franchise get dethroned by a third-party giant.
