Bethesda: We want a one-console future

Bethesda is hoping for a one console future.

"I'd like there to be only one platform. It's a lot of work to make the games look good on every platform you're on. I often equate it to DVD or Blu-Rays," said Todd Howard.

"Once I've bought a DVD I can use it in my TV, in my computer, in my car, here, whatever. And I think it would be good for gaming if it was like that. They spend billions of dollars selling consoles at a loss for years, but then make the money back with games. It's not like the industry is hurting, we're doing really well. But if I had one wish, you know, we would have better games for a single platform."

Obsidian shares similar thoughts, saying that multiplatform games are getting harder to develop.

No one is stopping you Bethesda, you are making the choice to cross platform your games. Back a decade a go the industry was doing just fine with game developers having to choose to develop for a single console. Since game developers have started focusing more on the online aspects and making sure there games will work on as many operating systems as possible the market has suffered.

I welcome back the old days when developers had to choose a primary operating system to make there game for. Games were of better quality.

Its called a PC... Once the console era dies and all those casuals move to smart phones the PC and its users who refuse to move on will still be around!

We don't need one company with a monopoly over gaming systems. Competition is a good thing.

The cost of games would most likely drop dramatically.

It's pretty dumb to compare to a Dvd, because with a Dvd you buy it once and that's it it's yours, but buy a game and you buy the game, buy DLC, buy expansion packs and maybe pay for subscription until the developer decides it's not profitable to keep the server running and all those games that require a constant online connection mean those discs are nothing better than beer mats, and one console means developers have total control and this will get infinitely worse.

There is one a computer and I use Steam. Most games that come out on consoles come out on PC and you can do any thing with it. The only thing is that parents don't want there kids on a PC because of porn so they buy them a console. The real question is why would an adult play on a console when its for kids when a computer is more powerful with Mods, High Graphics, Online Play, Free Games, Emulators, Clans, Old Games, Voice Chat, Gaming Tools and Programs. Since you have to make games on computers its not going away any time soon or ever.

Computers are a complete fuck on to play games on though, you got to spend a fortune keeping it recent, keep it clear of stuff that can slow down the games and playing games stresses all those expensive components so they keep needing replacements.

It's called a computer. Retrace your steps, Bethesda - I'm sure you'll find one somewhere...

If there was only one console then games wouldn't be as popular because the fanboys would cry and leave. Not to mention the fact that the companies wouldn't make as much money combined. Also exclusivity would be dead. There is a lot of plus sides to one console, but just as one nation, there will be problems.

exclusive console or pc is always ur option ,far as smart phones, ipad etc it'll never just be jus them an no console or jus a pc unless a company really makes a console thats console/pc. we'll closes 2 that is ps3 but they never update there flash an took off 2many features.

ipad smart phones will never replace console, people like 2 game on big screens, joystic k not haven 2 recharge sumthing every 2to3hours. how much money in this economy are people willing to pay now an in the future it doesn't look like its goin 2 get better n 20 or 50years.

lastly how much better can a game be on a smart phones or ipad pc yea but once again how much can a person sit infront of a pc screen vs a flat. yes u can hook ur pc up to a flat an yes they have flats that are sum what built in pc features. console are here as long as pc's are here.

in all we are far behind in technology in every aspect we are just now getting into what we should had been. jus think of what we dont know that are countries government are hid'n from us. are we ready 4 it hell no. jus think if we had fly'n cars guess what girl breaks up wit BF he's mad an fly his car into her house. the technology now they still try'n to figure it out

If you were part of the British Royal family one day would be classed as a busy week.
