Activision: Are You Ready For A Year Long Duty? |
Listed in: News Tags: Activision, call of duty, cod
I know poeple who play Call of Duty year round and I think that it's helpeful to have a hobby, but when that hobby is killing people and not moving that much, it will probably be detrimental to your health. Some people might say, hey go outside, but they can't, they are hooked now, as Activision will not let go of their greasy, sweaty hands.

With MW3 selling enough copies to warrant a billion dollars and Black Ops 2 being shown off on Amazon page worldwide, you better believe it's a full time job for Activision to keep the franchise floating, running and gunning. Of course, it is helped out by Elite and the millions of sponsors worldwide, as well as eSports deals, which will hopefully get more TV time both in the US and internationally. This is of course helped by Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg who doesn't see Call of Duty as a yearly release any more, but a year-round activity not dissimilar to sports on TV.
“If you look at it through a different lens; if you look at it like, the NFL happens every year and people like it every year and they obsess over it every year and they come back for more every year and I think that it’s an entertainment relationship that’s pretty unique in the gaming space.” Wait, like NFL, you mean like the way EA Games treats Madden?

The main point is Activision now knows they can make new games and sell them off with ease, the hard part is the marketing for them now and what's the new market to break it to...

COD is a disease to the first person shooter genre. It's the same mechanics recycled with new features, new perks and new maps every year. Not to mention they are still using a ten year old game engine just because it allows them to make these yearly releases without too much bothersome QA.
