Currently, the only way to play videos on the Xbox 360 is if you have Windows Media Center as your operating system. Most people are not willing to reinstall Windows simply to be able to stream to their 360. Most don?t have the technical knowledge to set up multiple partitions for multiple OS?s.
For people who are not willing to install the Windows Media Center over their current OS, you may purchase the VMware Workstation 5.5 along with the Windows Media Center.
VMware Workstation allows you to run multiple OSs simultaneously on a single PC, almost like an OS emulation software, with networking. None of that technical, no rebooting or hard drive partitioning is required.
So, I guess this isn?t really all that practical, as the software costs $189, and you?ll need to buy the Windows Media Center operating system. But hey, it?ll work!

typical of Microsoft
I hope they release a FREE comp program to stream to the 360
Cause this is ridiculously high priced for the convenience of playing movies...

This is somewhat ridiculous.. You CANNOT buy Windows Media Center Operating System Software.
There are components in a Media Center that do not come with regular computers.. Hence you buy a Windows Media Center PC, not.. A PC with Windows Media Center Software installed.

you cant stream videos with Windows Media Connect, and media center would be crippled on vmware because it needs HARDWARE MPEG 2 support, once again, this is a half=baked attempt at news.

you can stream movies?

Ok I just checked the microsoft website and they said windows media connect works with xbox 360 streaming videos on winxp. I just downloaded the software but first it verifies you have geniune windows installed. Now if i had an xbox 360 to try it on I would know, can some one try it?

Can't you use Windows Media Encoder? I've used it to stream Video content to my dad's pocket PC, shouldn't it work for Xbox360?

Here you can buy Media Center.

Media Center is just WinXP Pro with extended media capabilities. You can install Media Center on any PC that is compatible , like example my PC a P4 3ghz HT , ATI Radeon 9600 , runs perfectly.
You dont need the aditional hardware crap to run Media Center , but is nice to have at least a TV Card so you can plug in your Cable TV and watch TV using Media Center in your PC or XBox360.

You can buy Windows Media Center without the need of buying a Media Center PC.
There's a store here in Sweden called "Webhallen" and they sell Windows Media Center 2005 if you buy ANY piece of computer hardware; this could be anything from a motherboard to a mouse!
"Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005 Svensk CD OEM (Vid köp av hårdvara)
Microsoft XP OEM får du endast köpa om du vid samma tillfälle köper dator eller datordelar, som tex - hårddisk, grafikkort, moderkort,i tangentbord, mus osv."
