Publisher Electronic Arts and developer Starbreeze have run into a bit of criticism regarding their approach to the Syndicate reboot. While there's no chance the game will be moving out of the first person shooter genre, lead designer Rickard Johansson assured gamers that the reboot won't be just another cookie-cutter shooter. Those who want a challenge will find it in spades in Syndicate.
Johansson told Official Xbox Magazine in an interview that Syndicate would be a bit harder than most other shooter games currently available on the market. He describes the Starbreeze-developed reboot as "challenging. Not frustrating, but probably harder than a lot of games out there".

The same OXM article that features the interview also sheds some light on Syndicate's factions system, which in this case deals with the differet corporations that players interact with. Being able to adapt to changing circumstances will be key, as a successful strategy for one particular coproration won't necessarily guarantee a similar outcome when used on another corporation.
"Different Syndicates will behave very differently to each other, meaning you need to adapt to circumstances as you play," reads the feature. "Some will rely on tech, while others will be more aggressive and use brute force. Some work on a commander system, others co-ordinate on the fly... It looks impressive and could be a real asset for the final game."
Syndicate comes out on February 2012. You can find a trailer here.
