Valhalla Game Studios boss Tomonobu Itagaki has shared a few new details regarding his new game, Devil's Third, in an itnerview with Japanese outfit Impress Watch.
According to the outspoken developer, Devil's Third as it is right now is now quite different from the trailer they showed of at E3 2010. The characters, including the main ones, have undergone changes, and some of the game's areas have become much faster action-wise.
Itagaki also mentioned that the dev team has successfully upped the multiplayer count to 25 players. They're still trying to raise that number to 32 players, with Itagaki himself has promising support for at least 16 players at once.
As for the multiplayer modes, they'll be adding the standard fare found in most mulyiplayer shooters nowadays. To spice things up a bit, they're coming up with some unique modes. Itagaki didn't reveal any specifics, but he hinted that some of the new modes will take advantage of the larger environment and player count found in a multiplayer shooter.
Finally, Itagaki and Valhalla plan to have a closed beta test for Devil's Third. Although they haven't nailed down a final launch window yet, Itagaki forecasts that it could happen by Fall 2012. The game itself is set for a 2013 release.
Itagaki's always been a bit of a hype machine, so it wasn't all that surprising when he claimed last year that Devil's Third would be "the best game ever." While that just plain sounds too farfetched, I gotta admit it would be very interesting to see how close Itagaki comes to fulfilling that claim.
