Gears of War 3 Boasts 3 Million Sold in First Week |

It’s no secret that Xbox 360 gamers love Marcus Feenix and his relative distaste for the weird, alien/monster creatures he faces in the “Gears of War” franchise. However, it looks like Epic Games did something right with “Gears of War 3,” the latest addition and possibly the final chapter in the story. The game’s sales figures after only a week of sales are staggering.

According to Microsoft, “Gears 3” has sold over three million copies in its first week on the market. That’s a pretty large take for the gaming giant, especially considering that “Gears” is an Xbox 360 exclusive – those sales figures were accomplished without the help of PC gamers or PS3 owners. It looks like people just can’t resist another chance to chainsaw their friends in the back.
Microsoft also notes that thanks to this recent sales push, the “Gears of War” franchise has officially raked in one billion dollars in sales since the introduction of the first game. With DLC, the inevitable “Game of the Year” edition and a platinum hits certification in a year or so, “Gears 3” is primed to be one of the largest moneymakers on the system for the near future.
Epic is trying something new with the “Gears” DLC; four individual content packs will be released starting in November, but players can purchase all four with a season pass. Season pass owners receive a small discount, bringing the total cost of the four packs down from 3600 Microsoft Points to 2400. Those that commit to the season pass also receive a “liquid metal weapon set,” whatever that may be.
For those of you that have played or are planning on playing “Gears of War 3,” what are your plans for DLC time – season pass or individual download?
