It might not exactly be the Kinect 2, but rumours are abound now that there is an improved version of the Kinect in the works.

The 'new' Kinect is rumoured to feature:

• Voice recognition features, including lip-reading;
• Ability to detect direction a user is facing;
• Can read your emotional state from your facial features;
• Will use the volume and pitch of your voice to also contribute to mood recognition.

The shot below is Yanko Design's concept of what the new Xbox Console could look like, named 'Xbox Prestige'.

Given Microsoft is pressing ahead with Kinect integration for the PC, a new Kinect may still be a fair while off.

With so many rumours floating around with regard to the Xbox Loop, it is certainly looking more likely that a reveal will happen some time next year for the console anyway.

And, with the success of the Kinect throughout this year, including it being named Gadget of the year, it would be unlikely for it to receive a reboot so soon.

But there is some sense in capitalising on the success of the Kinect by employing a quick technology update to put it even further ahead of the pack.
