X-Flash V12

Once again, homebrew developer Art has released an updated version of his brainchild X-Flash homebrew firmware modification tool for your PSP. This app, when used with caution and enough knowledge, could alter and create a custom firmware for your PSP. The operative term in that sentence is enough knowledge - using it even if you have no idea what in the world you're doing could result to a bricked PSP. Unbricking it will require a minor miracle of sorts since  there is the possibility of unbricking it with Dark_Alex's Custom Firmware modification in Recovery mode.

Just some reminders from the good developer himself who divulge this development through our forums, "the original Dark_AleX Custom Firmware modification does not work under MPH firmware launcher 1.3.7. Simulation mode works correctly, but the firmware dump will probably become unusable with any firmware launcher if the custom firmware files are applied in simulation mode."

Aside from that, Art also wants you to know that you "can add to the config.txt file that X-Flash V12 writes in ms0:/PSP/SYSTEM, but do not edit the section that X-Flash creates if you want to use the configurator (you only need to change the file manually if you wish to add prx files)."

So here's what's new in this version:

- Support for applying Dark_AleX's latest custom firmware mod and reversal of it, complete with ASCII graphics configurator.
- Implement Freeplay & Fluff's Name Plate picture mod in the PSP's about screen. name_plate.png is checked for size and resolution.
- Program checks existence of Xflash/Dump, and Xflash/Registry folders when required, and creates them if they do not exist.
- Program checks for firmware dump before simulation mode starts.
- Program checks for at least 16Mb free space on memory stick  before firmware dump if the Xflash/Dump folder doesn't already exist.
- Menu code optimization.

And as always, your constructive criticisms, observations, suggestions, and other what-nots are most welcome in the comments section. Not only would you help the developer perfect the app, but you might also get your own ideas and, who knows, be able to do an app of this caliber, so speak up people!

This was released yesterday

Edited by Jerico G. (Q.J. NET Staff) , because:
It was indeed released earlier, but for some reason, the file from the developer was corrupted. We only got our hands on the working d'link some minutes ago.

Keep up the good work! ;)

The name plate is the first screen you see when you are viewing 'About PSP' In the System Settings

Can you make yur own dump file of yur 1.5fw with this
so you can recover it anytime?
I havn't followed the flash progress for a while but what you can do wiith it now it sounds most interesting.
Im currently using themepsp v1.2 for my emulated 2.7fw
dump, but I don't know how to get the 1.5 dump.
Can someone help or direct me to a full scale guide?
Or will the read me do?

I realy want to use this but all those warnings make me F@#*kn nervous.
Thanks and great stuff, once again.

 » Confused

So if dis bricks my psp, could i recover it with Dark_Alexs Custom Firmware?

   by Dabomstew (Unregistered) - 2006-07-22
 » @24

@24: It really depends on what you're flashing. If you have Dark_alex firmware installed before using, you should be able to unbrick from anything this particular program can do. If not, it depends if you can actually get to the launcher (aka if your font, menu names, wallpaper, or gameboot are screwed, you probably will not be able to launch the Dark_alex launcher)

it would be good if this could do the same thing for your 2.71 firmware dump on your memory stick that devhook uses

 » This utility rules!!

I love this program and I think the Dos like interface suits it perfectly. There is no need for a flashy bloated GUI that takes time to load. This program just gets straight to the point.

@25:So your saying that if dis was to brick my psp.Dark_Alexs Custom Firmware cant do anything bout it.

 » X and O Button Swap

It would be great if you included the ability to change the X-O button behavior for the XMB. (X used as enter and O used as back as for USA/EUR PSP's; and O used as enter and X used as back as for JP PSP's). Would be nice to be able to flash this to the PSP. Thanks and great work!!
