Wii U will have AMD Radeon HD, IBM power-based microprocessor on board.

AMD and IBM have both confirmed their support for Nintendo's newly-announced Wii U. Both company's are bringing their latest technology to Nintendo's newest platform.
IBM announced that they will provide an all-new "power-based microprocessor" that packs some of IBM's most advanced technology into an "energy-saving silicon package" that will provide power to Nintendo's brand new console.
"IBM has been a terrific partner for many years. We truly value IBM's commitment to support Nintendo in delivering an entirely new kind of gaming and entertainment experience for consumers around the world," said Genyo Takeda, Senior Managing Director, Integrated Research and Development, at Nintendo Co., Ltd.
"We're very proud to have delivered to Nintendo consistent technology advancements for three generations of entertainment consoles," said Elmer Corbin, director, IBM's custom chip business. "Our relationship with Nintendo underscores our unique position in the industry - how we work together with clients to help them leverage IBM technology, intellectual property and research to drive innovation into their own core products."
IBM says it will produce millions of chips for Nintendo featuring its IBM Silicon on Insulator (SOI) technology at 45 nanometers (45 billionths of a meter).
AMD on the other hand will provide the GPU for the upcoming console. It will feature the firms 'custom AMD Radeon HD GPU' which promises to provide the best characteristics of AMD's graphics technology solutions: high-definition graphics support; rich multimedia acceleration and playback; and multiple display support.
"We greatly value our synergistic relationship with the AMD design team. The AMD custom graphics processor delivers the best of AMD's world-class graphics expertise. AMD will support our vision of innovating play through unique entertainment experiences," said Genyo Takeda, senior managing director, Integrated Research & Development of Nintendo Co. Ltd.
"AMD shares Nintendo's excitement for the new HD entertainment experience planned for the Wii U console," said David Wang, corporate vice president of Silicon Engineering, AMD. "We're proud to provide our leading-edge HD multimedia graphics engine to power the new entertainment features of the console. Nintendo is a highly-valued customer and we look forward to the launch in 2012."
Nintendo announced its brand new home console at their E3 press conference earlier this week. It is slated for release in 2012.

1993 is almost 20 years ago. :)

Most of their games do not reach 720p resolution, like halo or modern warfare 2, just to name a few.
Nintendo will be the first real HD.

Or maybe they thought the article was going to talk about the HD capabilities of it and say what the actual output would be. HD can mean 720p, people.

The PlayStation Eye was out for PS2 and isn't a copy of the Wii.
The Wii is finally getting better hardware.
The Wii is finally getting HD output.
The Wii is finally getting 'hardcore' games.
The Wii didn't invent touch screen gaming.
The Wii didn't invent motion gaming.
The Wii isn't innovative. And neither will the WiiU.

Have a ps3 that spends more time in the pawn shop on loan then played, as I enjoy my pc for games far more then the over priced ps3 game library!

The original DS had touch screen and people said that it brought something new to gaming and it did. The PSP had a lot of power, but nothing unseen before, despite having a lot of other features like a web browser. Now, the 3DS is out and it brings nothing new to the way you play a game except that you see it in 3D (if you're lucky). 3D is not innovative. It's a gimmick. They didn't add anything new to the way you play a handheld game and it doesn't change the mechanics of the games.
So, look at the new PS Vita. It has a gyroscope and accelerometer, but so does the 3DS, and that's been seen before in a handheld, so it doesn't bring anything new. And like the original PSP, it brings a lot of power over the DS competitor. But, the new PSP has something the other didn't and something the 3DS won't. In fact, it has a list of things: dual analog sticks, back touch pad, etc. Those are the things that have never been done before in a handheld. That's innovative because it changes the way you play a game.
People who sided with the original DS did so because it brought something new, but then many of those same people aren't supporting the PSVita even though it brings just as much innovation or more than the original DS when the 3DS brings none. It's crazy. It's hypocritical.
And I need to tell you something: refusing to add in very, very important features in a console is not innovative. The PS2 came out and supported DVD's. Why does the Wii not play DVD's. This isn't about Blu-Ray right now because everything that reads DVD's plays DVD's. If you hack it you can, but leaving these features out is a crazy idea that takes away from "being innovative."
And even though HD graphics are awesome, the Wii still didn't bring them. Why did they purposely leave out HD graphics? That could have been a quick fix, but again, it's something stopping them from being "innovative." And yes, the PS3 and 360 did bring new things to the way we play: The PS3 had a 6-axis controller, even though you might say it was a flop, and they both have great online experiences. That is a current-gen must. Do you play any Wii games online? Of course not.
And overpriced PS3 games? You do know that the Greatest Hits collection is priced between $20 and $30? There are over 65 titles that are in the Greatest Hits collection! Seems like a reasonable price for those games. Hmmm.

so help me here : Before the which console had motion game out the box ( not add ons please )? and that actually work... Like Wii sports..(example )
And yes the NDS was the first handheld console ( dedicated to games only ) to use touch screen... ( because none is saying WIIU created touch screen games )
And wait a minute with console has touchscreen built in a controller to play on your TV/monitor??

But, whenever I say it's not innovative, I'm not implying that there has been something out that has been deditcated to motion gaming. People knew and know that motion gaming cannot be what an entire console is about. That's why the Wii failed. So, they had add-ons for it. A great example would be Samba de Amigo for the Dreamcast in 2000. Look it up. The Playstation Eye, also. You might tell me that no one bought it, but many did and despite your thought of that, you only help my argument. Of course Sony wouldn't build a whole console around that. Otherwise, the PS2 would not be selling so well still! In fact, Sony would have to develop a new console just 3 and a half years after it was released! You said yourself that it can't be built around it. And the PlayStation Eye is a little more than just a camera, allow me to introduce to you what the Move was on the PS2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbSzmRt7HhQ
And yeah, that was already finish in 2001.
The Palm Pilot and PPC both had touch screen. And don't say that those don't count because they had some awesome touch-screen games. Oh, and the Game.com had it, too.
I don't understand your last question, though. Which console has one touch screen that you can use on your TV to play games? Do you not see that this is just gimmicky trick Nintendo is trying to pull on you? Didn't work with 'motion gaming of the future' and it won't work for the new console.

BTW , playstation eye was a failure, was an addon...and died like that... Sony didn't take the risk to built the console around the peripheral...

you are aware that Nintendo REFUSED to get in to HD gaming, Nintendo was aiming at a somewhat family console so how the heck is that copying, improving hardware isn't copying neither so me upgrading my pc's ram or cpu is copying? Nobody patented HD , and im certain that the general "HARDCORE" gaming isn't patented. Nintendo is STILL being innovative and releasing something new each time, and their also trying to move in to the industry that everyone is interested at so its a win win.SONY DOES IT TOO, IN FACT THEY DID IT NOT TOO LONG AGO!!! Its not only in the gaming industry Sony moved in to the tablet industry, a company has to do certain things to survive and im sure Sony and possibly Microsoft are both going to release something similar to the Wii U AFTER its released. Crait do you hate nintendo or something (just curious)?

And no, I don't hate Nintendo. I used to be a huge Nintendo fanboy! I loved the Gameboy and even bought a Gameboy Micro but Nintendo came out with the DS. I knew after seeing the DS that it would not be fun and games would be made for the touch screen instead of the touch screen being made for the games.

Whats different about Nintendo is they have balls sometimes bad R.O.B bust most of the time great i.e everything else.
Calm down angry person no need to be so well fanboyish

Sorry, but the last good Nintendo console for me was the N64. Ever since then, Nintendo haven't been the same. The GameCube was just about ok, but making a console look like a lunchbox (complete with handle!) was a bad idea!

Nintendo's playing catchup with this console, they only added the useless controller to hide that fact.
They should never have canceled the SNES PSX, the Ps1 already had a huge userbase by the time the N64 came out, Nintendo's been playing catch up ever since.

I don't see how anybody could class this as innovative when its the exact same idea as the DS.
And Don't forget, the WiiU is only powerful enough to stream video for one controller, not impressed at all.
