Used game copy yields pornographic drawings inside

It's nothing new, but it's still always a cause for concern - especially for parents - when shenanigans like this happen. Apparenlty, a mother found pornographic drawings inside her 6-year-old boy's copy of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games

The copy was already used and bought from GameStop. Recounted Traci Turner, her son suddenly yelled upon finding the explicit drawings inside the cover. "They were extremely inappropriate. It was very sexual in nature and I was not prepared to answer the questions of what was going on in the picture."

She immediately reported the situation to the GameStop branch where they bought the copy from, but all they got was a "Thank you for calling" and then the dial tone.

To make things worse, the scene went down while his son had his playmates over, and so they too saw the sexual images. "It was kind of shocking because I expected them ot have more of a reaction like I did. Like, 'Oh my gosh, you can bring it to us. I apologize." For their part, the GameStop employee did maintain that she gave out an apology to Turner about the unfortunate incident.

With this experience, the lesson that she now learned is to never buy used games and instead get new ones. GameStop has always been a strong advocate of used games, saying that it actually does help the industry.

"With this experience, the lesson that she now learned is to never buy used games and instead get new ones. "

no, the lesson is to take a look thru the material first before giving it to a 6 year old. once again, one instance out of millions, and ALL used games are to blame.

I support used games all the way... 60$ for a game you will play for 2-10hours (All in what game) then more or less never play again is just dumb.

As for the so called Porn... My guess it's some drawling some KID!!! did "Not real porn" and the Mom overreacted like all overprotective mom's do.
She could have easily just took them tossed them in the trash and been done with it, Crazy people like this just make me mad.
people like this is why kids stay in there house just playing video games all day, And when they get older the mom's can't understand why he wont get a JOB!!

This is absolutely not Gamestop's fault. If you are a parent and you are buying a USED game then it is YOUR responsibility to search through and make sure that the owner before did not leave anything in the case that would be inappropriate for their child.

I agree with this. Unfortunately, most parents can't even see the age warnings that are on the FRONT of boxes, so they're definitely not going to look inside! (Yeah, I know this is only Mario and not a 15 or 18 rated game. I'm just saying that parents hardly even look at the outside, let alone the inside!)

You can't expect GameStop to check through every manual to see if someone has left something in there. All they do is open the case, check the disc isn't mauled (you wouldn't think so from some discs!) and then close the case.

Your the one that needs to grow up. There are a lot worse things out there than porn. For some reason, in our society it's alright to show extreme forms of violence such as killing, mutilation and decapitation but as soon as porn is involved people over react and freak out. Why? Porn can't harm anyone.

and yes Andy that is correct, for disk based games we do not look through the booklet, we take the disk out and determine if "we would buy it" If yes then it gets resold, if no then it gets sent to corporate as defective. Cartridge based games we just make sure its the correct game in the case. It's up to the consumer to ensure that it works properly and as desired. If not, that is the reason we hold the 30 day defective policy... you can return your game for full price and get something else or get another copy of the same game.

The only things that we wipe clean in terms of previous user content are systems and memory cards, we have found pornographic images on DS, PSP, PS3, and Xbox360 systems... so ALL systems get a factory reset... and all memory cards get formatted...

This sounds like a marketing tactic for new games rather than used.
I wouldn't be surprised if this didn't actually happen, and that they were paid to do this.

the quote stands loud and clear with no real connection to the events.

"With this experience, the lesson that she now learned is to never buy used games and instead get new ones"

then again, people are stupid enough to make a connection to unrelated shit.

Every time I get a new game, the first thing I do is read the manual, or at least flip through it. I've done this my entire life.
Also, article said, "Recounted Traci Turner, her son suddenly yelled upon finding the explicit drawings inside the cover." Although, that quote sounds like bullshit. What kid is gonna be so freaked out by mere nudity that he screams?
Other than those two small points, yeah, the lady is dumb and needs stick-in-assectomy.

That mother should be ashamed of herself for not checking out the USED MATERIAL prior to giving it to her child.

I would have hung up on her to.

Parents are supposed to check all used games for pornography? Well, it does happen to 1 or 2 out of millions of customers a year. What a bad parent! LOL
