THQ has announced that the video game version for the movie Rio has released on current generation consoles and handhelds.

WOKING, UK. – THQ Inc. (NASDAQ: THQI) and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products today announced that the RIO video game is scheduled to be available on April 8, for a suggested retail price of £34.99 on both the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. On the Wii™ system it will be £29.99 and £24.99 on the Nintendo DS™ family of hand-held systems. RIO is rated PEGI 7 for everyone 7 and older on the console systems and PEGI 3 for everyone on Nintendo DS.

Inspired by Fox's upcoming 3D event, RIO – THE MOVIE, the video game translates the film's scope and grandeur, which is alive with colour, music, adventure and fun, into a series of fast-paced mini-games that up to four players can enjoy.

"RIO is such a fun movie that we wanted to bring a creative, imaginative approach to making a movie-based game, one that can be enjoyed by players of every age and skill level," said Martin Good, THQ's Executive Vice President of Kids, Family and Casual Games. "The colours, the music and great humour of RIO – THE MOVIE inspired us to create a really unique game experience."

"We know that once audiences see RIO – THE MOVIE they're going to want to extend the adventure and fun outside of the movie theatre, and this game is the kind of exciting entertainment experience that is sure to deliver," said Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President, Global New Media, Fox Consumer Products.

On the Wii and PlayStation®3 systems, up to four players can compete with each other in 40 mini-games as one of the six playable characters from the film: Blu, Jewel, Pedro, Nico, Raphael, and Eva. Adding to the fun, the Xbox 360 platform offers three additional exclusive mini-games. Players can compete in five unique modes as they journey through Rio to win first place at the Carnival ceremony. RIO also features quick "jump in, jump out" gameplay, allowing players to enter and exit a game as they please – making it perfect for family and party fun.

For on-the-go excitement, the Nintendo DS version offers a completely different experience from the console version via a rhythm-based adventure. As the main character from the film, Blu, players can use their stylus to discover Latin and hip hop beats as they navigate through 20 levels and seven awe-inspiring locations. RIO also features four fun mini-games where players will be able to party with the other characters from the film: Blu, Jewel and Luis.
