A recent survey by Nielsen has revealed how much interest consumers have in Project Cafe, Nintendo's new home console.

This info comes courtesy of GoNintendo:

  • 27 percent of interviewed gamers would be interested in buying Nintendo's next console within 6 months of its release.
  • As for new consoles from the competition, Microsoft (25 percent) and Sony (24 percent) should they be released in the next two years.
  • 18 percent of gamers were interested in purchasing a follow-up to the recently released Nintendo 3DS.
  • 13 percent were interested in Next Generation Portable.
  • Interest in Project Cafe was lower in gamers that own both a Wii and another major console.
  • For those that own a Wii and an Xbox 360, 46 percent expressed interest in buying the next Microsoft system.
  • This was compared to only 37 percent who want Nintendo's next console.
  • For those that own a Wii and PS3, 44 percent are interested in a new Sony system compared to 40 percent want the Wii successor.
  • 47 percent of gamers expecting Nintendo's new console to launch in the next two years.
  • 40 percent expect a new Microsoft console in that time frame.
  • 37 percent expect a new home system from Sony.
  • 22 percent of over 131,000 tracked online messages about the show centered on Project Cafe.
  • 4 percent of messages measured last year involved Microsoft's Kinect.

Nothing has been confirmed about Project Cafe, but we do have an idea of how powerful the console is.

Yeh I agree, no sample size or the country/site where this stats came from. For all we know, the data might have come from IKEA or something.

Maybe if they stop bringing out so many Mario games and concentrate on bring out more innovative games Nintendo might have done better.

Yeah, but Nintendo is the Apple of gaming. Not that they are expensive and everyone wants a Nintendo product, but that they keep feeding people the exact same product and people keep buying it.

I agree with the first 2 comments. but Nielson is supposed to be a reputable survey company. still, i don't believe the stats. and i wouldn't want a new nintendo system. my parents bought a wii and no one uses it, a new system, the same thing would happen.

Kinda doubtful about that survey but well, is not like the results are gonna be the same in other stats. I remember a japanese website where they maded 2 polls, one asking if you like to buy a 3ds and the other for the psp2. On the 3ds poll, like 38% wanted one, and on the psp2 one, almost a 47%.

And about Project Cafe, it sounds really interesting, but i still think the supposed joysticks are BS

Casually gamers which make up the majority of Wii owners won't jump onboard this. Grandma couldn't care less about a new bowling game in HD and will stick with the Wii.
