Research firm Nielsen recently conducted a survey to determine which console dominates the US households. Based on the results, the Wii takes over the living room, while the Xbox 360 is the king of the bedroom.
Here's how the numbers are broken down. According to the study, a whopping 59% of American living rooms are home to the Nintendo Wii. Sony's PlayStation 3 follows closely at 53%, while the Xbox 360 settles for the third spot with 45%.

The Wii's dominance in the living room, so said Nielsen, is a "reflection of the Nintendo console's motion-controlled, social gaming style."
That's for the living room. Let's head over to the other most likely place to put your consoles in. The study reveals that while the Xbox 360 trails behind in the living room front, it does dominate the bedroom scene, with 28% being present in kids' bedrooms.
The Wii takes 14% of the marketshare, while the PS3 gets 16% of the respondents' pie.
For the master bedroom, it is found to be "home to another 10 percent of 7th Gen systems, with a number of other household locations accounting for the balance of platforms."
This "other household locations" mentioned here would pertain to the basement, which, as was found in the report, holds 7% of the marketshare.

I play on my PS3 several times a week, and my wife plays her NES (Christmas present from me a couple years ago) a couple times a month and on her atari2600 (woody model, another Christmas present) probably every couple months or so. I don't think either of us have turned on the Wii in over a year.
