id Software explains why Rage won't be on the Wii

id Software is not interested in bringing their latest project, Rage, onto Nintendo's current console. The reason...

"For Rage, as much as Nintendo might not like to hear this, id Tech 5 is too much tech for the Wii," says id Software’s President Todd Hollenshead. "We're not doing a crappy version of Rage on the Wii. If you play the PC, the PS3, the 360 version, you get all of it. All the media's the same. We didn't make the crippled version that somebody wishes they had some other platform to play on."

Now how about Nintendo's upcoming "core-targeted"console, the Wii U?

"I haven't really had a chance to sit down with [John] Carmack about it, because it's his opinion that matters," reveals Hollenshead. "From what Nintendo is saying, [the Wii U] looks interesting, but it still remains to be seen how it fits within how id Tech 5 would run on it, is the audience right for us to develop games on that platform."

Rage was originally slated to arrive on September 13, but it was later pushed back to October 4.

""I haven't really had a chance to sit down with [John] Carmack about it, because it's his opinion that matters,""

Someone should email him a link to all the John Carmack articles talking about the WiiU. It's sad we know more than him.

instead of writing all that dribble and wasting peoples lives reading it he could have just said 'because the wii is shite, nuff said'.

It's not whether or not the audience is right, your games will bring the audience too it. Quit all this damn hating on all of the current gen consoles (as well as next gen). This esoteric thinking is just killing the market and causing it to collapse in on itself. The consumer enjoys games we love them, they are an entertainment medium as well as a past time. Now as far as the Wii is concerned yeah I can understand that it is unable to run ID tech 5.

Wow, that sure was a long set of words just to say you agree with the article. I liked the part where you complained a lot.

Right, they don't know if they want it on WiiU, but they'll put it on the iPad... :-?

John Carmack is very clear that he wants to work with WiiU. Any time an article says "id says", and it isn't a direct quote from Carmack, you can ignore it.

Yeah like you said....

"We're not doing a crappy version of Rage on the Wii"

That sure didn't stop them from doing a crappy version on the iPad. That game didn't even last a full day on my pad.
