Shigeru Miyamoto, the Gaming God, turns 49 today in human years and on the cusp of half a century we honour him and pretty much everything he has done for gaming. I'm just glad that his planet hasn't called him back yet.

Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Pikmin, names that will be remembered throughout all of gaming history. Okay, maybe not Pikmin, but Link and Mario's legacy will leave a mark on history and bringing gaming to the forefront. Creating icoinic characters and mascots for gaming to hold on to and create a mythology both in-game and for fans a like.

Without him the world would be a bleaker and darker place in the games industry. Miyamoto's youthful spirit has kept gaming from falling behind in the military-centric works of First Person Shooters and the mediocrity of same-game different-year sports games. There have been a few mis-steps in his career but ultimately his body of work has been fun, well-received and has been a great ride and we can't wait to see what he does next.
