Square Enix has so far kept Dragon Quest X tightly under wraps, but the publisher and developer has confirmed a few things about the upcoming role playing game.
For one, Dragon Quest X will be an online game. Exact details on the online system have yet to be revealed, but players will reportedly be able to form parties at pubs. Those who want to play by themselves can do so by forming a party with NPCs. Your own character can also be used as an NPC by others.
Players will be able to see other players fighting in the game world. If you party happens to come across players that get defeated, you can choose to help them. Since the game is online, subscription fees are a possibility as hinted by the new Dragon Quest series portal. A beta phase is also in the works.
Another piece of new information is that Dragon Quest X is also headed for Wii U. Aside from better graphics, the Wii U version will feature cross-platform play with the Wii version. You can start playing on Wii and then transfer your character to the Wii U version when you get the latter.
Series creator Yuuji Horii has also hinted at possible 3DS features such as letting players transfer their character to the handheld for Spot Pass transfers.
