The Revolution Really Is In The Controller |

Looks like an online magazine site seems to think they have the inside scoop on the Nintendo Revolution controller. Sounds interesting, and I sure hadn’t thought of this, yet somehow if this is all the controller is, I would feel a bit let down. Quote from Computer Games Magazine:
“It's revolutionary in the same two senses that controller rumble is/was revolutionary: first, it's kind of actually not a huge deal, but controllers will eventually all have it because it is pretty neat; and second, it involves revolving. Simply, the Revolution controller will provide resistance to being tilted. No doubt this is done by some application of a tilt sensor such as the one in WarioWare: Twisted combined with rumble technology.
After all, rumble is just done by some off-balance widgets inside the controller spinning really fast. If they were balanced, they could provide enough rotational inertia— the same thing that makes bikes and motorcycles harder to tilt the faster they're going— to perform this trick.
The "could" is why Nintendo hasn't come out with it yet. Yeah, they say they don't want it to be copied, which is valid because I'm sure it will be, just not anytime soon. What's really happening is Nintendo is trying to make this work with wireless controllers, finding the optimal tradeoff between spinning the widgets fast enough to produce a good, strong effect and keeping the controller from eating batteries too quickly. Oh, and it has to be cheap and reliable, too.â€

basically, their saying that the controller will have gyroscopes in it to allow it to push back, right? that seems pretty cool... could be used if you get hit/hit something.
This is actually a pretty amazing innovation - consider playing a driving game and feeling the inertia of the car as you slide around a corner.
Don't forget that Nintendo are also providing a free internet service, and will be offering downloads of the entire Nintendo back catalogue - that in itself is pretty amazing.
Cool beans! cool site too =P
Would people like Peter Molyneux and Sega's Yuji Naka praise the Revolution over such a seemingly minor innovation? It's hard to believe Nintendo would put so much hype on such a technologically minor update. All I can say is that if this is true, I will be totally disappointed (then again...I've never experienced a controller with this kind of feedback, so I could end up eating my own words). However, I have to admit considering the insane amount of hype regarding the Revolution, anything short of a virutal reality simulation would feel a little disappointing at first. I guess in the end we'll just have to try it out before we make our judgment.
However..the problem is that the casual consumer could care less about 'trying things out'. Unless Nintendo has some genius marketing plan up their sleeves, I have an extremely hard time imagining them selling consoles like hot-cakes to the very image-conscious American and European markets. Ah well...we'll see if this is 'the big secret' eventually.
Sonic I think you seem to forget, that the Nintendo DS.. was also a test, to see how thigns works out, and even underpowered comapired to the Sony PSP, it is still selling better in Japan and is selling better combined with the Nintendo GBA to out beat the Sony PSP in Amercia.
The point is, Nintendo is the grandfather of gameing, and they KNOW what they are doing.
Finally, how the hell would a online magazine get the latest scoop when no one else has even been able to? Even people who are suppose to have hands on with the Nintendo R?
I dont think this is simply what the hype is. But even if it is, Nintendo has done the Hype in such a fashion, more people are intrested in it, then say, showing off on some ****ing TV station like MTV.
"Looks like an online magazine site seems to think they have the inside scoop on the Nintnedo Revolution controller."
- Typo : D

- I dont remember reading anything about the Nintendo back catalogue being FREE ?
By the time I have spent my money on the 360 and the PS3 the Nintendo product would have to be very special to get whatever change I have left.
Kit: the Nintendo classic games won't be downloadable for free, check Gamespot or other various blogs such forevergeek.com for more info.
As for the tilting the controler to play a game that's not innovative, Microsoft has had a Sidewinder pad that does that out for ages, it's not even USB! If I remember correctly (since I purchased it) playing games with it was really bad. I hope Nintendo does something much better.
Griffith - i think you missed the point. You don't move the controller to control a game, the controller moves WITH the game.
innovation is great, but 90% of nintendo games are lame... i dont see that changing
It was already made back on PSX, you could control your character by tilting gamepad, it's not a revolution.
24th August - I think we will be getting some news on the revo on that date
and the controller will have to be experienced to be understood
No MeMyselfAndI, you don't tilt the controller, the controller tilts you.
Freakin' Awesome.
"Cheap and reliable"
^THATS my nintendo :) Tis why ive given up on getting the 360 at launch, this is the system im looking foward to the most.
Well, pretty cool. SOunds like a letdown, but rumble wasnt so great at first either, and think fo the possibilities of this! Besides, nintendo introduced rumble, so I only expect the best from their newer innovations, WUTEVER IT IS!
I heard this rumor months ago.
I don't think that spinning motors in a controller can be sustained by battery power for any decent legnth of time.
Thats why I think this is only a rumor.
"Kit: the Nintendo classic games won't be downloadable for free, check Gamespot or other various blogs such forevergeek.com for more info."
Some of them will be downloadable for free. Not all.
if you guys remember this is the same way we felt when we all saw our first fake pic of the controller, this is prolly just some guy spreading some fake info in a hi-class way (internet magazine or whatever that was)i recently saw another site that posted fake specs like you can feel enviornmental effects like cold and warm and water and wind and other stuff
belive it or not, its prolly fake but you never know
by the way i cant find my password rite now but my name on this site is something like theGhost
if you look, kit said "Free internet service, and will be offering downloads..."
two separate things
--free internet--
--offered downloads--
put together it still doesnt mean free downloads
