Wii U as E-Reader?

We already know that Nintendo is working on an app store for the Wii U, however we don’t really know what sort of apps to expect. It’s obvious they’ll be incorporating as many media options as possible in an effort to expand the appeal of the device, and one rumor in particular indicates that the company may be looking to E-Readers as its next field of play.

Nintendo is apparently reaching out to certain iOS developers and requesting that they develop software for the Wii U – one developer in particular notes that the company is focused on bringing newspapers, magazines and user manuals directly to the devices’ tablet-like controller.

If true, it’s a sharp idea on the part of Nintendo – tablets are an incredibly hot market, and the likely low price point for the Wii U will make it the perfect entry-level device for both gaming and tablet multi-tasking. Of course, this is all still in the rumor phase; anything can happen when it comes to Nintendo.

My favorite part of the rumor: digital delivery of Nintendo Power. I used to love that magazine back in the Super Nintendo heyday; it would be fun to re-up with a digital subscription delivered directly to my Wii U.

Sure, why not? There's tons of possibilities with the new controller.

Just make a stand alone tablet already. This identity crisis sure is entertaining.

For the love of god. Please please close your gob. It seems you are the crabs, on the warts, of the cheesy cock that belongs to the ginger child, that resulted from cousins having too much time together. The crap that comes from you is legendary. Dont comment on things you are just going to bash. Looking at all your old posts just proves this. Im no fan boy but good god you do write some trash. All seems to be put downs. Lets judge the product when it gets released.

"I'm not here to make friends you chode toker."

It's pretty bad that you have to keep repeating that to just about everyone you come across. Scratch that....pathetic is a better word.

You'd think they would have figured it out by now. You figured it out quicker than others but its still took you a long ass time.

It doesn't have a strong processor. It has just enough resources to be able to stream button presses, camera, and video.

I understand what it is, but I also see that they're trying to take a slice out of the tablet e-reader market. If they'd just focus on games I'd be happy.

No, they aren't. You completely pulled that out of your ass.

Anyone who asked about the "tablet" at E3 was quickly corrected that is WAS NOT a tablet.

Do yourself a favor, stick to facts and make sure you flush everything that comes out your ass.

You're absolutely right! The surge of tablet sales has NOTHING to do with the design of their controller or its functionality! :-*

Now you're catching on. Good for you.

Next your going to be telling us the DSiXL is a fold out half tablet. Or maybe you'll be your usual troll self and tell us how Nintendo ripped off Microsoft's Courier design.

This feature is nice until you realise you can't take the tablet with you.

As far as I've seen, that's not entirely true. Since we don't know much about the new system its hard to tell. For all we know, the controller can be highly independent of the console itself. Then again, if your correct, it is a silly idea.

E3 they told the world the the tablet would have a limited range. They don't plan to make the tablet a separate computer, they want the tablet to be an extension of the main console it self.

Serious?
Nintendo Exec 1: "Hey, let's make a console that has apps in it for multi-media! Like eBooks!"
Nintendo Exec 2: "Sounds good, but let's leave out DVD playback!"
Nintendo Exec 1: "Makes sense!"

I still like the feel of holding and owning the real book my self. An interesting idea from Nintendo though.

Oh Nintendo and their gimmicks.

Next it will be Sony copying them, like they always do.

So far, Nintendo has been pretty successful with their gimmicks.

Tablet features on a home console? Brilliant!

I dont see it as copying per say, but rather that Nintendo is choosing to be the gaming industry's guinea pig, whether they acknowledge it or not.

When the Razer Hydra got released, nobody bitched about them copying Nintendo's Wiimote. I wonder why?

Hydra has a stationary and relatively more accurate point of reference. Wii Remote depends on gravity and Gs created by motion.
The Hydra uses a base-station that the controllers use as a stationary and dependable point of reference.
It's hard to complain that someone is copying when they do so much right.

the motion plus use gyro and for the acurate point you forgot the pointing part use the ir references in front of the tv...
so no.
but anyway it is logical nintendo try to make a hybrid beetween the ipad from apple and a playstation3 to get more success.
they allways tryed lultiscreen with ds and gc/gba .

You have to have line of sight for IR. Hydra has accuracy on all axis at all times facing any direction.

Wii Remote relies on one of the universes most weak forces. And one that you can accidentally create and the controller has little or no way that it can tell between accelerated Gs and Gs from a body of mass.

Meanwhile, Hydra uses a force that is stronger and can't be accidentally created by movement. It just has one solid and definite point of reference.

Give the controller enough power to play N64 games and they'll sell a shit load more Wii Us, but i guess that would take sales from proper Wii U games so probably never happen.

A controller powerful enough to play N64 games is called a Vita or a 3DS.

3DS XL with removable top screen might make for a nice controller as long as they add that second analog.
