Wii Hacks Still Work on Wii U? |
Listed in: Accessories, Controller, News, Games Tags: comex, homebrew, Nintendo, wii hacks, wii u hacks
The Wii U has just barely been on US shores for a week. How surprised would you be to know that you can already run homebrew on the brand new console? It's certainly crazy I know, but for followers of other scenes the methodology may not surprise you. Thanks to more or less having access to the original Wii right within the latest offering, you'll be glad to know that many of your little exploits still work quite well too. Comex already has his finger prints on the Wii U? U bet they do!

If you've at all followed the PlayStation Vita scene at all, you know that at this very moment Sony is probably wishing they never included an original PSP emulator on their latest handheld. Through game exploit after exploit, hackers have circumvented the very latest firmware updates to try their hand at getting emulators and other programs running on their system. Essentially that is more or less what has been done with the Wii U as well. Early adopters and analysts alike have commented that the console's backwards compatibility efforts more or less put a full Wii right inside the Wii U. In this particular case, it seems they may have made things just a little bit too similar.
While the jury is still officially out on a lot of the savegame exploits that helped to create a scene for the Wii, what we can confirm is that the popular Smash Brothers Brawl exploit still works just as you would expect. It still operates through the level loading mechanism and remains one of the most well known hacks to date. In addition however, Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Batman hacks have also been confirmed functional too. It certainly hasn't taken long for us to see the Wii U at the mercy of hands that are far less than official developers. So far the score is 1-0 for the hack team! I didn't think it was possible, but the Wii U just got even more interesting!

On the WiiU, the Wii menu is NOT the same as the WiiU menu. So while the Wii exploits may work on the Wii Menu, that has nothing to do with the WiiU. At least, not yet.
But all in all...at least there's that. It's better than nothing I guess.

The WiiU may be hacked sooner than the 3DS though, since the DS on 3DS just loads data from the card, and has little to no system level access. I've seen Wii mode homebrew access some WiiU mode data.

Also, soft mods are for pussies. Get a real hack.
At any rate, going into Wii mode in order to launch "something" to gain access to the WiiU mode would be a shitty hack. It would take you 10-15 minutes worth of loading just to get up and running. Also, you can NOT run WiiU ISO's from Wii mode. You need to get back into WiiU mode.
But you knew that....right?

Nah. That would be illegal. They can not purposely ruin your system just because you used an accessory they didn't like. That would like like Ford blowing up your car because you used a radio they didn't like. They are simply saying that if you did something to alter your system and the update conflicted with it...then it might brick. That's just common sense and not covered under warranty (thus a brick).
Either way, no normal DS hack, ever, altered the system. Flashcarts do nothing more then emulate another cart.
The only hack I can remember having altered the system in any way was to remove the boot safety warning but that never affected anything.
