Sony president Shuhei Yoshida is intrigued by Wii U, but he isn't quite sure what it is.

"I was surprised to see the final product for what Nintendo was showing. It's pretty close to what was being rumored," Yoshida told IGN. "Lots of media had different interpretations of the rumors, and something I thought Nintendo might be doing was like a giant DS in your house. I was expecting them to do some demos, like Nintendogs coming from the big screen to the small screen where you can then pet the dog on the tablet controller."

"And finally they are going to HD graphics, which must please third-party publishers judging from what they were saying at the press conference. It's interesting."

Yoshida continued, "We still don't know much about the Wii U. It seems like the controller can only work with one console. When they show multiplayer they are using the Wii remotes. How games will be developed for that console we still don't know. As I understand, the Wii U remote has to be in proximity of the console so it's not a true portable device in a sense that you can bring it with you outside the room or house."

"I still can't get my head around what it is."

Wii U has EA's heads spinning. Find out why here.

And that is totally right about it.

The controller is basically a giant lower part of the 3DS with one more circle pad and added 2 more shoulder triggers.

I don't know what's so hard to understand here.

The Wii U utilizing only one Wii U controller in multiplayer (though Nintendo said they are experimenting with more) probably is due to the price of the unit. A controller is expensive enough as it is, without a touchscreen and camera attached. Asking people to buy 4 for 4-player MP would probably be asking too much so they focus on a multiplayer experience people can afford, especially since most of them probably already own multiple Wii controllers.

The fact that the console's performance would probably drop significantly if it would have to provide players with 5 different video outputs (4 controllers and the TV itself) probably is a reason as well.

Though I do think it's a bit of a bummer and a missed opportunity, since Nintendo experimented with 4-player MP using separate screens for every player (plus the TV) already with the GBA-to-GameCube connectivity and I think it would be very popular if it wasn't so expensive to do it. So I would be very pleased if, after some time, the controllers get so affordable that they actually provide multiplayer using 4 Wii U controllers as a standard some time in the future.
We'll see...

Ok I think I understand what's going on here. Sony is saying that so that they will observe how well or bad the Wii U sales. Depending on that Sony will do nothing (if the Wii U doesn't sell well) OR they will do what we've all been thinking since E3: Add more conectivity between the PS Vita and the PS3 so that it could work as a Wii U does. ... Although I think that's gonna happen sooner or later anyways

I don't think price is the only issue because obviously the Wii U would have to process 4 fairly high resolution video outputs, all different for each player, and have a wireless output that can stream at a high enough bit rate for all 4, but the 3DS has it's own processor so should reduce the load on the Wii U, and I'll bet if this does work Sony like always will copy it using the Psv but they always like 3 years behind everyone else when they eventually do copy ideas.

The cool thing about diffrenty controllers, is that any console or third party can copy it for any system.

They could make an iPad controller that you could buy for the ps3 or 360.

The whole point is designing the soft for it.

Thats why you have to make it tied to a system.

Or devs wont bother to add suport.

Although eyetoy had some good games, and mostly from 3rd parties.

Its not impossible if the addon is popular enough to justify it.
