PSA: Do Not Turn off Your Wii U During the Day One Update |
Listed in: Accessories, Controller, News, Games Tags: Nintendo, wii u bricks, wii u system update
For those of you who are unaware, the Wii U has a system update to be installed as a day one prerequisite for running the console. Essentially it includes a lot of system files that are absolutely necessary for the full Wii U experience including access to the eShop and Wii backwards compatibility. That being said, all of that is going to take a long time to download, so I urge you to please keep the console turned on during the entire process.

I know what it's like to get a new console. Sometimes we just can't wait to get ready and going to step into the next generation. Not to mention, as a culture, instant technology has allowed us to become a little bit more impatient. That's why none of us really loved the idea of having to install a patch as soon as we powered up our brand new machine. Still, what that single update offers us is a whole new world of stuff to keep us entertained. If you want access to Netflix or the updated gamepad web browser, then you'll need to get this update if you really want to hop into the game.
As if the idea of a patch isn't bad enough, all of that content has been reported to take a full hour to download. That being said, there have been quite a few gamers that have wrongfully assumed their console had frozen during the process. After all, new systems always have software issues that can lead to crashes so why not now? If this thought pops into your head during the update, I urge you to reconsider. Under this assumption users have actually already completely bricked their brand new Wii U, so please try to think sensibly and keep all switches and buttons in the on position during this and any other future system updates. You'll thank me later.

PS: Whenever I do a firmware update for something like a console or a BDP, I just cook something or go out to eat. I know that there is nothing I can do to help it and messing with it just runs the risk of corruption.
