Pachter: Sony, Nintendo will divide handheld market, Wii U is impressive |
Listed in: News Tags: Michael Pachter, Nintendo, Sony

Analyst Michael Pachter believes that Sony and Nintendo will divide the ever-shrinking handheld market.
"We continue to believe that handheld game sales will suffer in correlation to the growth of smart phone sales, although we think that the handheld games business will remain a healthy niche for the foreseeable future," Pachter said.
"With that said, Sony's announcement of PS Vita pricing (at $249) led many investors to believe that Sony and Nintendo will divide a shrinking handheld market, and likely contributed to further declines in Nintendo's share price. Nintendo, in particular, saw its share price decline, largely due to continuing uncertainty about its handheld business, and skepticism about its planned launch of the Wii U next year."
Pachter went on to praise Wii U, even if its future is uncertain.
"The company did not provide specs or pricing for the device although the hardware was truly impressive, it is impossible to determine whether it will succeed or fail without knowing how it compares to the competition in terms of pricing and performance."

So yes for Nintendo if they want to survive, this probably is a good time to introduce a new game console.

If? When were they ever on the brink of extinction?

Nintendo is shaping up to be the next Atari. Atari had a crazy amount of market dominance, but they released a series of horrible games and new systems, now they only exist as a crappy game publisher.
I predicted the sudden downward spiral in Wii system sales, and I'm fairly sure I'm right about this as well. Nintendo's own investors are worried about the future of the company.
If nintendo puts forth real effort into offering revolutionary new game ideas like in the N64 days, they will do better.

You have nothing to support that claim. Your post is nothing but a baseless opinion and typical Nintendo bashing which is all you do.
Your post did nothing to offer up any point in time as to when Nintendo was ever on the brink of extinction.
Nice try trainwreck, dave, cennar, whoever the hell you are today.

Nintendo isn't doing so well, that's why they're trying to release the next gen console early... Even though it will have nothing compare to the 720 or PS4.

Nintendo's stocks could fall or cut in half and they would still be just fine.
Nintendo isn't struggling at all. If they were then documentation would spread like wild fire just like it does when any other company falls on it's ass.
A company can file chapter 11 and STILL BE just fine.
This is just more people talking out there rear end. OMFG! Nintendo is in the shitter!!! They're failing!!! They'll be out of business soon!!!!

You're a retard. Honest retard. You are so closeminded. Anyone says anything against the Wii, and you call them a liar. They say something against the Wii, and you demand proof, even for things that are common sense.
There is your proof! HELLO!!

1. Their stock has been falling steadily. Along with countless other companies. Clearly you don't know shit about the stock market. Whenever a company makes an unknown change, stocks fall.
2. Their PROFIT on the Wii will go down as sales go down. That fact that a product has a LIFE CYCLE means nothing other then it has a life cycle. Selling less Wiis THUS LESS PROFIT does not mean the company is suffering.
Seriously moron, just stop. You are acting on your own ignorance and it's doing nothing but making you look like a fool.
"There is your proof! HELLO!!"
That was only proof of your stupidity. I'm still waiting for proof that Nintendo is suffering.

I showed you proof and you still argue. You're a fanboy.

So I guess we get to hear about how the WiiU is a POS and a failure all the way up to it's launch.

It basically says hardware is impressive but we dont know what it is (lack of spec!)
And what is impressive about it (beside the tablet)? the games shown were from x360 or PS3 and Nintendo admitted to that.

Go get in a car and drive it around a track. Then give your opinion on how it performed and handled. Good, bad, great, crappy....you can do that without knowing what the engine is under the hood.

In my family the Wii, or Gamecube, only gets used a couple times each month at most; the PS3 at least once a week, and our NDS and PSP units (multiples of each) get used daily.
