Nintendo Branching into Multimedia with Wii U |
Listed in: News Tags: nintendo rumors, wii apps, wii u apps, wii u rumors
Everyone knows that Nintendo’s Wii U console is heading for shelves sometime in 2012, but details are a bit scarce. We've seen the huge tablet/controller they’re packaging with the device, and we know there will be motion control and some familiar faces, but that’s about it.

However, news broke yesterday that Nintendo may have its eye on more than just the gaming community, and is quietly working on its own app store packed with a variety of apps that will be ready for the Wii U’s launch. According to a person “familiar” with the device’s development, Nintendo is looking to bring a much wider variety of applications to the console, likely in an effort to diversify its offerings and keep up with the multimedia capabilities of the PS3 and Xbox 360.
While these are merely rumors at the current stage of development, it makes sense for Nintendo to allow third-party apps on its device. The tablet screen is practically built for browsing the web and reading emails, and the device with the most functionality is going to be the winner in a time where the technical differences between systems are increasingly negligible.
What do you think of a Nintendo app store? Would more apps provide you with more incentive to pick up a Wii U?

So....the average person simply does not care about their Wii paying DVDs. Anyone who does, is the minority.
Minority loses, welcome to planet Earth!
