If Nintendo Wants To Improve Its Standings With The Wii U, Here's What They Have To Do - Nintendo Needs To Step Up Online Efforts |

More Emphasis On the Internet
Nintendo has never exactly been in the forefront when it comes to internet services and connectivity on their consoles, and to me anyway this has always been something of a crying shame. Back when Xbox Live and PlayStation Online were starting to take hold, the Gamecube lagged terribly behind and this did not stop with the Wii. In general, the multiplayer features of classic games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl came off as an afterthought when they probably should have been a priority. As it stands now, the basic structure for a good internet service is there in the Nintendo Network, but it needs a few significant changes before it can reach the level of what Sony and Microsoft can accomplish.

For one, let's make the interface a little bit less confusing. The Network ID is at least a little bit easier than the absolutely ridiculous friend codes that had independent friends lists for every game, but it's not necessarily the best. For one, the name of your Mii and your Network ID are two separate things, which can be kind of weird when trying to meet new people. Not to mention with the 3DS not using this system quite yet everything is still not so centralized. What they really need are more ways to connect with social media accounts we already have to meet with our real life friends first. Nintendo has seen what Sony will be doing with their next console, so in order to remain strong connectivity-wise they need to do something similar. I have no doubt that Miiverse has plans to make this sort of thing happen, but it's so obvious that all of this should have been done by day one.
Those are my tips for Nintendo, but what do you think. I by no means think the Wii U is a bad console, it just needs to recover in these crucial areas.

I don't know about yours but all three of my local Best Buys in SoCal USA have shrunk in the console area by at least 40%. That's massive! I asked the store manager at one of the locations and she flat out said console sales are through the floor.
