The Wii U online service will be a key part of Nintendo's new console, and EA, having some experience in the area with their own digital distribution service in Origin, are a good source of help.
According to reports, the Wii U online service will offer
- Voice and video chat
- Leaderboards and friends lists
- The approach with the Wii U Online ongoing development will be flexible
The report goes on to say that whilst publishers 'are happy' with the features the other online console service provide, such as Xbox Live, they are unhappy with the strict guidelines that Microsoft puts in to place.
It looks as though Nintendo are choosing to go with a more open approach because of this feedback they received from developers and publishers about what they required (and wanted) in an online service.
How do you feel about EA power the Wii U online service?
The idea would appeal to Nintendo as it will lessen their development time of the service, but how open will really be, when Origin is, by its nature, a very closed off framework?
Additional reports indicated that Valve is also bidding to have Steam as a core piece of the Wii U online service, but that EA is more "aggressively" bidding to Nintendo to have the Wii U become Origin-exclusive so that they can get ahead of the game in their battle with Steam.
