Sega explains absence of Sonic Generations on Wii U |

Last month, Sega exlained that the cancelation of Sonic Generations' Wii version was due to the console not having the power needed to handle the game's graphics. Now that Nintendo has announced the Wii's successor, are we going to see Sonic's 20th anniversary outing on a Nintendo home console? The answer is no, says Sega.
Alan Pritchard, the company's vice president of marketing, elaborates further in an interview with gaming news site GameSpot. Says Pritchard, the timing just won't work if they release a Wii U version of the game.
"Generations releases this November, and the Wii U is coming out next spring/summer, he explained. "I think one of the things we don't have to do, or reduce where possible, is we don't want to port games. ...To bring out Generations on a platform six or eight months after we release PS3, 360, and 3DS probably won't be the best strategy."
Sega isn't closing the door on evnetually releasing a Sonic game on the Wii U, of course. Says Pritchard, "I think if there's going to be a Sonic game for the Wii U, it needs to be built from the ground up. It's more likely that it would be a separate stand-alone installment or in conjunction with a multiplatform release in the future."
