Gearbox: Fox has given us a lot of freedom for Aliens: Colonial Marines |

Gearbox Software has been very enthusiastic about Aliens: Colonial Marines, and it seems some of that stems from the freedom that 20th Century Fox has given them so they can create a plausible entry in the Aliens series.
"They've given us a lot of freedom at 20th Century Fox," chief creative officer Brian Martel told GameSpot in a recent vido interview. "Fox has been really cool about it. They want us to stay within the canon of the movies, so this game takes place after Alien 3."
Aliens: Colonial Marines may take place after Alien 3 chronologically, but Martel emphasizes that it's more of a spiritual sequel to Aliens.
Fans of the movie series will find a few things not shown or even mentioned in the movies, of course, but Martel explains that any additions to the Aliens mythos made in Alien: Colonial Marines are there for the sake of gameplay.
"Fox also let us delve into the aliens' hive, life-cycle, and those kind of things," he said, "so we've been able to dig in there and kinda create new aliens that make sense for gameplay because making a game is very different than making a movie, so you need different requirements."
Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford had said before that Aliens: Colonial Marines will answer some of the questions left hanging by the movies.
