If you're a real gaming hardware nut, you're going to love this kind of crazy mod that places the Xbox 360 thumbsticks inside a Wii U Pro Gamepad. Believe it or not, the actual process won't take you any more than an hour if you work slowly, but that doesn't mean the procedure as a whole won't challenge you. If you've got a trusty screwdriver set, an Exacto knife, and a soldering iron, then you just might be in good shape to try this one out.

In the past, industry analysts and gamers alike have remarked on just how similar the Xbox 360 remote and the Pro Gamepad really are. After all, they offer both the same basic shape, and even the same button arrangement, so it would be hard for someone not to draw the comparison. Luckily thanks to a video from the folks over at Gametista you can proceed to make that dividing line even more blurry with this little controller mod that places the 360 thumbsticks in Nintendo's controller.

So now you might be asking "how in the world can I get this done." The process itself is explained in pretty good detail through the link above, but more or less you open up the Gamepad and then shave a small bit of the 360 thumbsticks off with the Exacto and then solder just a little bit on the inside of each one so that the 360s fit in Nintendo's slightly deeper controller bezel. If you have experience with this kind of stuff, it actually doesn't appear to be to difficult. Then again, how necessary is something like this unless you're just looking for something to do?

Sounds like more work then it's worth. Not to mention the destruction of a 360 controller.

Agree. I would only do this if I had a broken one on hand, and probably not even then...

Probably better ones out there though...

Let me ruin this controller I've had for two whole weeks.

If this is soldering in the pots assembly, then I can't say it sounds useful. If this is just replacing the nubs, it might be fun. I remember buying a used Wavebird with a torn apart analog stick and taking apart one of my extra Wii Nunchucks and transplanting the nub(they both use the same keys and have the same shape).

Hahha I made this story just for people like yourself, but I will agree with the above comments that this mod definitely isn't for everyone. It is a solder assembly though for just a minute but it still does destroy a 360 remote.

I wonder if the 360 pots are a better quality or something. Otherwise, I'd imagine that just transferring the nubs would suffice. On another note, I'll probably pick up a Pro Controller, since I already have a Bluetooth adapter and we'll probably see software for the controller within the year, and maybe even for the Wii U Gamepad, but that'll probably be a bit more complicated.
