ZodTTD releases ZodPlay v0.9.5 - Image 1Here's some additional media support for the iPhone, courtesy of ZodTTD. We recently checked his website and it seems he's not only released a new version of vlc4iphone, but he's also renamed the app as well. Yay for updates!

Here's his explanation for the name change, in case you were wondering:

I've been busy coding away at a faster, more compatible, and feature rich version of vlc4iphone when I was told to give the FFmpeg frontend FFplay a try. I did and it's been working great!

Why the change of names? The ZodPlay name was chosen as to not force this media player on any certain technology. While I will most likely rely on FFmpeg and/or VLC functionality in the future, this just gives me more freedom. In short, making things futureproof.

Here are some of the new things available in ZodPlay v0.9.5:
  • File browsing. No longer be restricted to any one directory. Browse any location you choose.
  • EVEN MORE media formats supported (performance depends on resolution) such as FLV, XviD, H264, MPEG4. AAC, FLAC. Though untested, subtitles should also work.
  • Audio visualizer plays during audio. No more blank screen!
  • More stable.
The app is currently in its testing phase, so you'll have to wait a little bit for the public version to come out. If you happen to be a beta tester for the app, check ZodTTD's site for additional details.
