PSP phone concept - Image 1Amidst all the concept art, the discussions and even the denials, rumors of a PSP phone live on. According to Mobile Entertainment, insiders have suggested that Sony Ericsson is indeed exploring the possibility of a gaming-centric mobile phone.

Those clamoring for a PSP phone, however, will have to wait a bit longer, it seems. As Mobile Entertainment noted, Sony Ericsson's gaming phone - which is reportedly scheduled for a February 2008 launch - will not carry the PSP branding.

What it will have, though, is motion sensitivity for "Wii-like gameplay" on a handset - despite some recent mobile handsets already implementing tilt and vibration detection using their built-in cameras. Meanwhile, the new Sony Ericsson phone will also reportedly have a games-oriented UI and style as well as other technical innovations.

Will this new gaming phone end up as a potential PSP competitor? Sony Ericsson has already built a good reputation with its Cyber-shot and Walkman phones, while the PSP is expected to enjoy higher sales numbers this month when the PSP Slim hits.

What do you guys think about this possible competitor? Leave a comment below and share your thoughts.

Sony's patent for the PSP Phone - Image 1The New York Post has put up a few more bits of info on Sony's rumored PSP phone. You guys will remember that we posted about the company getting a patent for it last week.

According to the New York Post, Sony has reportedly signed a deal with UK carrier BT Mobile. The deal includes bringing advanced multimedia communication features such as video chat and messaging to the PSP handheld system.

Analysts are also linking the PSP phone to possible moves by Sony to protect Sony Ericsson, its mobile communications arm and one of the company's few thriving departments. Apple's iPhone would be a threat to the Sony Ericsson Walkman, and coming out with a PSP phone could boost sales of both Sony Ericsson and the company's gaming division.

Walkman A800 - Image 1Many have tried, but no challenger has so far even dented the dominance of the Apple iPod in the MP3 player arena. This time, it's Sony's turn to step into the ring with the uber-popular gadget with its Walkman video player called the A800. Does it have the mettle to stack up to the champ? Let's have a look:

The A800 plays music with the patented Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) which makes listening a richer experience by restoring the little nuances that get lost when MP3 files are created and compressed. This makes for a more CD-quality experience. On the video side, MPEG 4 is supported along with the codec of AVC Baseline formats.

The screen measures two inches and the display can be viewed either horizontally or vertically. The lithium-ion rechargeable battery is said to last 30 hours with music playback and some 8 hours with video. It comes in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities with four color schemes-pink, violet, black, and white. Projected retail price ranges from US$ 299 to US$ 499, depending on storage capacity.
