The Nintendo Wiimote - Image 1How would you like to use your Wiimote to defuse bombs? Well, it won't exactly be you doing the defusing - a robot by the name of Packbot will be doing the actual work. All you need to do is control it, as the US Army is doing. This innovative idea actually came from a couple of engineers who modified the Wiimote for the US Army's use.

America's Army: True Soldiers developer diary video - Image 1Here's a developer diary video for upcoming Xbox 360 video game America's Army: True Soldiers. The title is being developed by Red Storm Entertainment using the Tom Clancy's GRAW 2 game engine. It will be published by Ubisoft and is scheduled to hit retail stores in a couple of days.

Being a tactical shooter focused on multiplayer campaign, it is only proper for America's Army: True Soldiers to sport real strategy and tactics being employed by the United States. Watch the video clip at the full article to know what Red Storm thinks about this.

Ubisoft logo - Image 1The U.S. Army-sponsored tactical first-person shooter made to simulate actual modern combat, Ubisoft's America's Army: True Soldiers for the Microsoft Xbox 360, is now available from Xbox Live as a demo. "Created by Soldiers, Developed by Gamers, Tested by Heroes" is the tagline, and we love the sound of it.

True Soldiers allows up to 15 players to go co-op in skirmishes and take territory back from enemy forces, or 16 players can go head to head in 8 on 8 Squad Engagement matches. As a simulator, soldiers will be equipped with authentic and updated U.S. Army gear, such as the Blue Force Tracker or the Raven UAV.

Previous America's Army titles were free, but it looks like this installment will go to retail. Since it's made with the GRAW2 engine, it shouldn't be too hard to shell out some dough. We've seen a video of the game in action before, and we sure are excited to get into the action.

Nonmetal Humvee for the win - Image 1Now here's an invention that Magneto, master of magnetism, would truly fear. The army has recently developed an issue Humvee utility vehicle using nonmetallic parts comprising of fiberglass, balsa wood and carbon reinforcements held together with resin.

The prototype Humvee, built by TPI Composite Inc., is around 900 pounds lighter than its conventional counterpart. This design was proposed to save on weight needed to carry extra armor to better protect soldiers from roadside bombs in the Middle East.

Also, such a lighter design might prevent such accidents while still sufficiently protecting any passengers inside the vehicle. Because a standard Humvee weighs around 10,000 to 12,000 pounds, it usually rides low to the ground, and thus prone to triggering any mines planted on the road.

The new Humvee was a culmination of an 18 month research by AM General Corp. and the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command. And while the army officials are still unsure when tests on the vehicle will begin, such a machine would undoubtedly be useful out on the field as a definite life-saver.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 - Image 1Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 - Image 2

What we have here are new screenshots for upcoming game Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 courtesy of IGN. The title was supposed to ship out back in May alongside the PC version but Ubisoft eventually delayed the release date. Some sources now say that GRAW 2 is coming this August 21.

Anyway, GRAW 2 is actually the eight installment in the highly successful tactical shooter franchise Ghost Recon. A few of the new features that come with the game include improved AI as well as version 2.0 of the ever-popular Cross Com. If you really want to know, its musical score was provided by Tom Salta.

The game brings players to year 2014, just around 48 hours after the events in the first GRAW game took place. The U.S. Army is having an encounter with Mexican loyalists and the whole story of the game only happens in 72 hours so expect a lot of action immediately.
