Super Mario Galacy hacked by D2CKey and Cyclowiz chips - Image 1We're picking up word that two mod chips have been confirmed to be able to run backup copies of Super Mario Galaxy from Nintendo for the Wii. The first is D2CKey, whose team officially confirmed that the DC2Key modchip's intial release could run backups of the U.S. version of SMG on an NTSC Wii. The hack has limits, however - the U.S. copy of SMG reportedly failed to run on Wii consoles from other regions.

The second chip, Team Cyclops' Cyclowiz, was enabled to run Super Mario Galaxy, thanks to a recent firmware (3.6) update. Before the owners make their update, however, Team Cyclops did warn that the new fw release is still in the beta phase, and not all the chip features/setups were fully tested.

You gotta love how Team Cyclops strives to tweak its products to perfection. Not long after the previous firmware version for CycloDS Evolution cards went online, the team just released another update to its firmware. CycloDS Evolution v1.2 BETA fixes a few issues to make the actual v1.2 worry-free.

The latest version addresses some game compatibility issues with problematic titles. Hiding files is now possible and save files now get tagged with proper date and time. Here's the complete changelog (taken from the readme included):
  • Game compatibility fixes (Worms: Open Warfare 2, etc).
  • Updated DLDI driver, will now allow 3rd party loaders such as DSOrganise and DSChannels to load .NDS files
  • Time shown in in-game menu
  • Folders starting with '.' are now hidden
  • Date and time are now set properly for .sav files
  • Fixed problem where skin name would always be shown as "Default" on reboot
  • Fixed cheat core bug
As usual, don't forget to report any problems to Team Cyclops. Helping out to squash those undiscovered bugs could very well ensure that the final release of v1.2 will be satisfying. Make sure to go over the app's readme first.

CycloWiz PC Flasher - Image 1

For the Wii console owners running on Team Cyclops's CycloWiz modchip, we've got news. The team has just announced that  users can now update their modchip via PC. It will be noted that prior to this announcement, the modchip's firmware was updated via downloads from the Cyclowiz site, which were subsequently burned into a DVD, and loaded into the Wii.

This new procedure will require a DVDTool cable, and a PC flasher application that can be picked up at the Team Cyclops site's forums. This feature allows allows users to upgrade CycloWiz version 1 to support D2B, and will also chip recovery in case of a bad flash.

DS owners mulling over what flashcart to purchase, attention: here's something you should know about one of your potential buys, the brand-spanking new CycloDS - a slow-mo feature that you can toggle on and of during gameplay with a simple button press. And to prove it, here's a video of the actual feature in action, activated in the middle of a skateboarding game.

While it certainly slows down the frantic gameplay to a more manageable level, one should note that the music doesn't slow down with the gameplay - thus eliminating any embarrassing sound warping (and not giving away the fact that you're practically cheating). However, this also in turn eliminates any usefulness it may have when rhythm games are concerned, specifically Elite Beat Agents and Ouendan 2, where the music being in time with gameplay is key.

In any case, enjoy the video!

Get your MicroSD USB adapters ready folks,  as we report another update for the CycloDS Evolution card for the Nintendo DS portable console. This latest firmware release - pegged at version 1.12 - is expected to fix several problems that were reported by Evo owners during the card's usage. One important tweak addresses a bug that prevented homebrew applications from writing properly to the Evo's MicroSD card:
  • Fixed a problem which prevented homebrew software from writing to the MicroSD card
  • Improved the compatibility with Slot 2 devices
  • Fixed a problem which made a few games hang with a white screen
  • Pressing 'B' in the cheat code list now returns you to the game list
  • Improved the speed of the "autoload" and "auto-boot to slot 2" features (now the CycloDS Evolution GUI is not displayed at all when either of these features is activated)
That's all for the moment, although Evo owners who report further problems are advised to report to Team Cyclops ASAP. If you're quick, they should be able to fix it come the next few firmware updates. Keep posted in case we hear news of more updates.

We have to admit, Team Cyclops is pretty quick with their updates. Two days shy of releasing CycloDS Evolution firmware 1.1 for use among the NDS community, the team's just announced the release of firmware version 1.11. This latest fw carries these tweaks:
  • Autoload feature (runs autoload.nds at startup)
  • Auto boot to Slot 2
  • Resolved compatibility issues with games such as 1110, 1115 and 1127
  • Fixed a bug in the cheat core which would result in some games hanging with a white screen if cheats were enabled
We'll be discussing the two new features noted in the release: Autoload, and Auto Boot for Slot 2. The Autoload update will allow CycloDS Evolution owners to automatically load an NDS file of their choice every time they boot up, by placing an "autoload.nds" file in the microSD's root directory. Autoload can be cancelled by holding "X" while the card is still booting up - this takes the users straight to the main menu.

The Auto Boot for Slot 2 feature will allow evo owners to skip the standard bootup and main menu, and head straight for whatever cartridge they have loaded in the DS slot 2. This is executable by holding "up" while the card is booting up.

That's the rough on v1.11's features. Feel free to download the file here, if you think you card's up for the new tweaks.
