Reports of Sling Media working on making their Slingbox placeshifting device compatible with Apple's new Apple TV have been confirmed according to The Unofficial Apple Weblog. The confirmation was reportedly made by Dave Zatz, an employee at Sling Media. For those who have yet to encounter it, the Slingbox is a TV streaming device that lets users stream and view video from their AV sources (DVD player, TiVo, etc.) remotely on their Internet-capable PCs. It also has an IR blaster that lets users control their AV source as if they were in their living rooms and using a standard remote control. The report from The Unofficial Apple Weblog says that the Slingbox Pro will apparently connect to the Apple TV via the component outputs. It will give users access not only to their videos but also to their entire iTunes library. Users can also reduce bandwidth by choosing audio only mode on the SlingPlayer software. |

Shiny
Awards. The name may not sound like much to you, but it's the Oscars of
the techie gadget world. Hosted by none other than Shiny Media, the most
recent award ceremonies was held at London, the night of February 21,
2007. LG, with their Chocolate mobile phone, Roberto Cavalli LG phone and the BH100, bagged two wins, a runner up spot, and the lovely and equally stunning Colleen over there. Of the most notable, and laughable, highlights during the night was the wicked ASBO Gadget of the Year award. ASBO, short for Anti-Social Behavior Order, describes the gadget that could be best used to annoy people around you. But wait, who needs a gadget to annoy people? Samsung - those poor chaps - won that award fair and square with their K5 MP3 player. It won not because of its small profile and even smaller speakers, but because the "itsy bitsy" speakers are actually very powerful - almost too powerful. We also noted that Apple's iPod Nano and (*gasp!* lo and behold!) Nintendo's Wii, bagged their own prizes from this prestigious event. And look, even Bethesda Softwork's The Elder Scrolls Legends IV: Oblivion and Nintendo's Wii Sports gets to bring home something for Mommy. Sling Media has come up with another version of the Slingbox after it's been approved by the FCC. It's called the "Slingbox A/V".Recall that Sling Media has been a major player for the release of new versions of the omnipresent Slingbox and its applications for PCs and mobile phones. This time around, it's now possible to stream recorded content from devices such as the DVR or DVD player because it comes with audio/video cable inputs on the side. Originally, Sling Media's Slingbox does not have inputs for A/V cables. Convenience is the key, as Slingbox lets users record media from a connected TV and then play it back on a notebook computer connected to the Internet. Check out this first image of the Slingbox A/V before it comes out in the market. |
