When it comes to fashion, I'd try everything that is out there. I was never afraid to experiment. Doing so would be curtailing your artistic expression, don't you agree? So never mind the norm and let yourself shine - literally.

This vibrant and dynamic creation of James Clar, who received his Masters from New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program studying visual systems, is an entry in Milan Trienniale “Dressing Ourselves” exhibition in Milan, Italy last January 2005. It is made from highly bendable LED displays that when placed inside a suit or any garment, the swirl of colors would look like it's responding to touch.

Say goodbye to the days of being a wallflower in parties, make Flexgrid the most recent addition to your fashion must-haves. And let there be light.

Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom

Sony Online Entertainment has been busy promoting their project for the PS3, the fantasy action-RPG-- Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom. It has been quite a while since we have featured something new about this game, but now, Kevin O'Hara, senior producer of the game was able to shine some light on the game which is known for now as an extension of two previous games for the PSP.

When asked about the storyline of the game, Mr. O'Hara said that in this PS3 goody, "you play a member of an elite squad of warriors in the Kingdom of Dureth. You're essentially Spec Ops for the kingdom; going off on dangerous missions abroad. The game starts right in the action with you bringing a final end to a barbarian incursion. Unfortunately while you've been away, the king has begun to experiment with dark powers. With external guidance, he has found a source of power in the suffering of his people. When you return, your homeland is a changed place. In order to save your kingdom, you'll need to betray your king."

Basically, the game isn't just about your character's physical prowess but it would also give you an idea who you are-- the type who follows the leader no matter what or the type who instigates change when you see that there's something utterly wrong about the scenario. Mr. O'Hara also mentions that it was very challenging to develop a game exclusively for the PS3. But it has its really exciting moments that are also very educational and applicable to their future projects.

He also mentions that they have plans on adding new and downloadable content. In his own words, "after the game ships, we'll create additional content for download. At this time, we have not announced what that will be." Pretty interesting.

lemmings

Got some spare time and a talent for designing wallpapers? This is you chance to shine! PlayStation.com is sponsoring a contest for the best Lemmings wallpaper. They call it the Lemmings Wallpaper Contest (like, how else would they call it?). The contest is based on Lemmings, the PSP game. If you don't have the game on your PSP, Lemmings are green-haired workaholic rodents with limited IQ. Their limited brainpower makes them do the same thing over and over.

Now your mission, should you accept the challenge, is to design an original Lemmings-inspired wallpaper for the PSP. The judges will choose the Top 10 designs from all the entries and post them on the official Playstation site. All 10 wallpaper finalists will also be posted on www.SaveTheLemmings.com, the Official Game Site. From the 10 finalists, the winner will be chosen by PlayStation Underground members.

The Lemmings Wallpaper Contest's general rules are:
  • No purchase necessary
  • Promotion ends 7/31/06
  • Open to U.S. residents 13 years and older registered PlayStation Underground members
  • Void where prohibited
The prizes? All 10 finalists will receive an inflatable Lemming doll (see below, left) and game poster. The winner gets a package (below, right) that includes a brand new PSP system , a copy of Lemmings and other assorted Lemmings goodies! Not bad at all! For details and everything to get your creative juices going, get them here. Thanks for the tip, Alexlook!

gow

Well it looks like there is going to be a pretty cool feature in Gears of War that has been pretty much overlooked or not talked about much as of yet. The feature as GameDaily reports deals with voice chat and the way the characters in the game lip sync to the words spoken from the microphone. This is what they had to say from their latest preview:

There's also something to be said about the teamwork that involves contact. The game will make use of microphone support, so you can shout commands amongst your team and keep in constant contact, and the voice recognition system and real-time lip syncing promise to keep the communication as smooth as possible, all while it actually looks like you're screaming to your team instead of just keeping a stiff face. Leave it to Epic to implement little details like that and make them shine that much more.

The lip-syncing feature may be small compared to the gigantic guns and destruction going on everywhere inside the game, but it's the small things like this that really get the player sucked in to the gaming experience. We'll find out how this cool feature holds up when Gears of War stampedes to the 360 later this year.

Snake Grass

It's been a while since we last saw Shine's Snake homebrew. It's one of the very first homebrew games US PSP owners have installed in their PSP, being released when various exploits for the 1.5 FW has just been uncovered (not very different from the development 2.50/2.60 users are currently experiencing; history repeating itself?). Now Isak Gundrosen, the very same guy who created the original artwork for Shine's Lua Game Snake, has written us about a recent update he made to the classic game. (Told you a lot of people are getting nostalgic with these recent happenings.)

According to him, it's still the same concept (controls, objective, etc.) as before, but he just wants to give it a new look. In his own words, "I have updated both levels, changed the color of the fly to make it stand out more in the grass level and added new icons for both the Lua version and the standalone 1.50 version".

Now personally, these changes, although minimal, has made the classic feel of the game much more enjoyable. I don't know why, but I find myself enjoying this game than any other Snake for PSP versions I've played before. Maybe it's because it's easier to detect the new objects that are popping out for our green-skinned monster, or maybe it's just because I'm reliving the good old days when the homebrew scene was young...Hey, welcome to the 1.50 world former 2.50/2/60'ers, the good days are here again!

iQuitEx-marine Brad Collum has written down eight ways to kill someone with an iPod Nano. They include some original ways, so check 'em out. Anyone willing to try these out?

1. Break it in half with your hands (very easy to do) and use the glass viewing screen's broken edge as a razor blade to slice the jugular when they are looking the other way.

2. Take off one sock (a dress or tube sock; pantyhose will work in a pinch), place the Nano in the sock, swing it around as fast as you can (being careful to not hit yourself), and whack the intended target right on the temple.

3. Take the reflective shiny part and catch the sun's ray and shine it in a vehicle driver's eyes, or if you are at a rock concert and the lead singer is prancing around on a center stage that protrudes into the audience like a phallus, you can use the same technique.

4. The cord on the earbud headphones can be used to strangle someone. A knee in the back can give extra leverage.

5. Dig a pit about 5 feet deep, then take about 15 3-foot-long stakes 2 inches in diameter and sharpen one end to a fine point, like a very sharp pencil. Jam the sticks at least a foot into the ground, with the sharp ends pointing up. Cover the hole with pine boughs, grass, and leaves. Treat the Nano like a slice of cheese pizza in a deep, hot oven and place it gently in the middle.

6. Carefully unstaple a tea bag and pour the contents on a plate. Break into the lithium-ion battery pack and saturate the tea with the battery's poison, then dry the tea in the sun (or with a hair dryer if you are in a hurry). Put tea back in tea bag and bend the staple back to its original position. Put the tea bag back where you got it.

7. Download to the Nano "We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters. Tell someone you will give him or her your Nano if they listen to that song a hundred times in a row.

8. Hide the Nano in a bowl of lutefisk, then take it to the annual Norsefest Lutefisk Eating Competition in Madison, Minnesota.

LUA Snake GUI mod

Zion has released version 1.0 of his Snake game for the PSP coded in Lua. This version of Snake is basically a modification of the original Lua version of Snake created by Shine included with all versions of Lua Player. This modifies the game in the graphics department, making it a lot better to look at and a more professional tint.  Original coding and credit all goes to Shine.

This is Zion's first Lua game, and hopefully it will lead to many more! Both the grass and desert levels have been modified, and so has the Snake logo in order to make it look that little bit nicer. This version will overwrite the original version of Snake in the luaplayer/Applications directory, and so if you wish to keep the original version you will have to change the folder name of this version to something else e.g. "Snake1".

NOTE: Lua Player is required.

Potentiometer

POT stands for potentiometer, an apparatus that measures the potential (or voltage) which has a user-adjustable resistance. Usually, this is a three-terminal resistor with a sliding contact in the center. Basically, it tells the laser how bright to shine to resolve issues of the drive not reading media.

The potentiometers or pots are located in the laser head's side if you want to try and adjust them. Just be careful in adjusting them though, because it's known to kill some lasers. Most gamers suggest not going below 3.0 when adjusting your pots.

Download and follow this step by step guide on how to tweak your pot made by Moda from Xbox-scene. A lot of people swear on the effectivity of this tutorial.

Lua Player logoThe amazing Lua Player has been updated to v0.20. Probably the most well-known PSP homebrew application, Lua Player is a Lua script player for the PSP, made by Moonlight, Shine and Oobles. LUA player makes development of games and applications much more easier for non-coders and coders alike. You can even test your applications on the PC using Lua Player for Windows, before trying them on your PSP.

This updated version adds many new features which in turn make it much more stable than the last release. Most of the changes are made for the developer end and not user end, so don't expect to see many changes with your eyes. Here's the version 0.20 changelog:

- Updated for gcc 4.1 and Lua 5.1. Some things you need to change for 5.1:
- Changed table iteration code:
- It's pure Lua 5.1: no binary operators and double as number type (e.g. now you can use one number for storing IP addresses)
- Sound.load doesn't crash anymore on invalid filenames
- Fixed problems with daylight saving time
- Font:getTextSize fixed.
- blit operation from screen to image works now
- TTF font plotting to images now sets the alpha value to opaque
- New function Image.loadFromMemory for loading images from memory
- PNG and JPEG is supported and autodetected
- Image-to-image blitting now uses alpha full blending [Callum Bethune]
- System.rename(oldName, newName) for renaming files and directories

Don't worry developers - the full changelog included in the download will explain these changes in more detail and will give examples on how this changes your code.

Lua Player comes in 2 seperate versions, 1.0 and 1.5 binaries. 2.0+ users can try the 1.0 binary version; however, if you have problems it is reccommended for you to use an earlier version such as Lua Player 0.16. The source code is also available for coders to download, although it is not needed to write or Play Lua applications.

Thanks for the heads up, youresam and cools!

LilCthulhu takes on the challenge of integrating the messenger client functions of a PDA into your PSP.  So you can immediately tell all your friends about this mad Lua game that you've just played (or about qj.net). LilCthulhu brings us ptDanzeff, an adaptation of Python-PSP.

This can be likened to Cancan's adaptation of the Danzeff OSK, but not quite. Keeping the source as close as possible to its original C source, ptDanzeff is more of a straight conversion of the C source code to Lua and Python.

At first it was a little bit confusing on what button to press to input the exact letter that you want. I think this is because I am basing it on a cellphone's keypad when composing SMS, but after a few tries it's relatively easy to use. One key that I particularly liked was the select key, because it produces a heart symbol. The interface is as close as you can get to the real thing. So you won't have to worry that you wouldn't know where everything is.

LilCthulhu extends his thanks to oobles, oopo, fanjita, ditlew, shine, nevyn, fraca7. Danzel and Jeff for providing us an excellent OSK and input system. Kudos to cancan who worked on his own adaptation for lua at probably the same time but was able to release it a few days earlier.
