Since checking the structural support of buildings can be a difficult task, electronics manufacturer Sanyo has developed a small tank-like robot which can travel underneath buildings to check for any cracks or signs of possible deterioration from a building's foundations.

Mobile gamers who would like to have classic video game titles on their phones might want to check out the latest releases from Taito Corporation. The company recently announced that Chase H.Q. 3D and Elevator Action 3D are now available on select models of Sprint Nextel mobile phones (i.e. Sanyo MM- 7500, MM-8300, MM-9000, SCP-6600 Katana and SCP-8400).

Chase H.Q. first appeared on arcades back in 1988. It's an adventure racing game that features an unmarked police car and the dispatcher Nancy on their quest to hunt down criminal suspects. The upgraded mobile version of Elevator Action 3D, on the other hand, offers an FPS twist to the timeless classic.

"Chase H.Q. 3D and Elevator Action 3D offer mobile gamers the thrill of action arcade games in a conveniently smaller package. They're pocket-sized adrenaline rushes," said Taito Corporation Game Producer Keiji Fujita. Both games are available for US$ 2.99 (monthly subscription) and US$ 6.99 (unlimited use).

BDP-S300 - Image 1It was only yesterday that we reported about Sony's rumored decision to do a hefty US$ 100 price cut on its Blu-ray players. Now, the rumors have been confirmed: Sony's BDP-S300 is now only US$ 499, just about half the price when it was launched six months ago. Growing demand for next generation technology and falling production costs led to the price cut, Sony said.

This also means that Sony's Blu-rays can now be more competitive with the HD-DVD player format; Toshiba currently sells its HD-DVD players for only less that US$ 300.

Sony and Toshiba have pit themselves against each other in the war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD, and analysts say that the competition is causing confusion for the consumers, that it may be best to wait it out and see which of the two formats comes out as the winner.

Consumers aren't the only ones divided between the Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD conflict - the electronics and entertainment industry feel the heat as well, with Samsung, Dell, and Apple supporting Blu-ray; NEC, Sanyo, and other companies backing up the HD-DVD format. Meanwhile, Disney as well as 20th Century Fox preferred to stay with Sony, while Universal opted for HD-DVD.

Sanyo Xacti E1 - Image 1SANYO has officially launched Xacti E1 Waterproof Camcorder, and it just happens to be the world's first waterproof camcorder "built for family fun above and below water." Well that certainly brings a kick to it. After all, most waterproof camcorders are built for professional use only.

It's pocket-sized so it won't be too difficult carrying it around, and comes with a separate underwater housing. What's cool about this is you can use it to whatever occasion or activity you may be into, be it snorkeling, skiing, snowboarding, or just plain lounging by the beach side.

As for its specs, despite its wholesome packaging, the Xacti E1 can be just as hardcore as its professional counterparts. It shoots TV-quality MPEG 4 video and makes use of the Advanced Video Codec AVC/ H.264. Oh, and this camcorder is "tapeless". Meaning, it runs fully on a standard SD memory card, so you can use it both as a camcorder and a digital camera.

For recording purposes, you can bet this won't konk out on you as it runs on ten full hours of full-motion 640 x 480 pixel, 30 fps on just one 8-gig SDHC memory card. But the card won't be included.

Anyhow, the SANYO Xacti E1 Waterproof Camcorder will be available come mid-June 2007 for US$ 499.99, and will come in three colors: yellow, blue and white.

Sanyo AquaWith all talks about looming global warming, population explosions, forest degradations, it's quite discouraging to even think how Earth would be like, say, 50 years from now. However, there's a school of thought debunking these supposedly Earth killers as mere steps toward evolution. They argued that humans' innate passion for innovation will enable us to conjure up technological solutions to combat these natural problems.

We're running out of biofuels, we turn to the sun. We're running out of potable drinking water, we turn to water purifiers. We're running out of water to wash our clothes, we turn to Sanyo's AQUA washing machine...

Nope, that last sentence wasn't meant to be a joke. Sanyo's about to unleash to the market a washing machine that'll be able to recycle water. Nope, it won't magically produce water, what it does is employ a device called Aqualoop, which in turn recycles water for use in further washes. How? It's a well-guarded secret, but according to it's creators, it can conserve around 50 litres of water per normal washing routine.

It also boasts of an AirWash feature that'll supposedly help owners clean clothes via odor-infusion and bacteria killing chemicals. Pretty much like how modern-day dry cleaners do their thing. Pricing and availability is still on TBA status, but it's highly likely that it'll be released in the Japanese market first.

So there, score one both for the technology freaks and mother nature. Now we can wear clothes without thinking about how much water it took to clean it. Nifty way to help save our planet right? But then again, we can always choose to go naked...

Motion sensing cellphones? We just came across reports that motion-sensing specialist InvenSense has secured a second round of funding, a whopping $11 million, to develop technology for gaming and mobile handsets.

The firm has impressed investors and electronic manufacturers like Sanyo and is set to pursue market opportunities for motion sensing devices in mobile phones and in other consumer electronics. The company's gyroscopic technology is currently in use in digital cameras, camera phones, and computer mice.

Motion sensing tech for the games in your cellphone? Certainly a possibility that's worth looking forward to.

As for the gaming side of things, InvenSense better look towards Microsoft, as the other two contenders in the console wars already have motion sensing tech. It would seem a bit to rash for them to look to third parties for motion sensing this late in the game.
