First it was about Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time being released earlier in Japan and Australia, now it's about the N64 title being overpriced. The guys over at 2Old2Play pointed out that maybe 1000 Wii Points is too expensive for a retro title. They noted that an average N64 cartridge sells between US$ 7 to US$ 20 in eBay therefore a download at US$ 10 might be a little overpriced. And they reckon that people could get a vintage N64, a cartridge of Ocarina of Time, a strategy guide plus a Zelda T-Shirt. Considering that a lot of gamers think that Virtual Console titles are generally overpriced. Well, we'd like to think that it's the convenience of the service that makes it somehow worth it. How about you guys? What's your say? |

I seriously though that this was the last time I'll ever have a brush with the whole Banana-phone thing. Apparently, I was wrong, and now I'm doomed to die in a puddle of my own blood, hopefully after I transmit the dread song to someone else.
Anyway, what we have here is the Banana handsfree accessory for mobile phones, also known as the "Banokia". According to its makers Mockia, it's a "genuine realistic faux plastic banana wired to work with your mobile phone as a plug in handsfree." You don't see too many genuine realistic faux plastic bananas these days, so you might want to grab one just for the novelty value. They actually look realistic enough that you might want to try and eat one. Mockia cautions against this, though, as "they taste bloody awful." You can also do a Kirk Cameron and use it to demonstrate God's existence to a bunch of atheists - an argument that would be promptly shot down with shouts of "THAT BANANA WAS BRED BY MAN!" But hey, at least you tried. You can grab a Banokia for a sale price of UK£ 12.99 (US$ 25) by heading on over to the Mockia website. Mockia also has a bunch of other cool handsfree accessories such as the Pokia (a standard landline handset), the Brickia (a retro Brick phone), and my personal favorite, the Deskia, a handsfree accessory shaped like a rotary landline telephone complete with handset and squiggly cord. |

Sony Online Entertainment has just announced arcade classic Q*Bert will be hopping up the pyramid of gaming consoles and onto the next-gen PS3 via PlayStation Network. No, it won't be a direct port. It's going to be a brand new version that'll have a bunch of exclusive features. These "PS3-exclusive features" still haven't been sneezed out of the Sony labs, but we're sure the gameplay would stay the same. Would the SIXAXIS be used though? New enemies perhaps (Coily must get lonely after all these years)? Will the retro sounds stay unchanged? Here's what we know though:
Say now, do you guys smell a bunch of screenshots? Yeah, we thought so. Check them out behind the "Full Article" link below. |

Looks
like there could possibly be more smashed TVs in the future, and it's
going to be all for the sake of love. Yes, that's right. Furu Furu Park's
over 30 minigames look like they're easy to get into with so much
enthusiasm to send your Wiimotes flying around the room. But why the
love? The main gameplay mode of Furu Furu will have you play as a junior high school student whose hero is Sonic Blastman (ooh, retro arcade love!) and is learning how to impress a girl. Here's where Taito's old games come in. The classic games will be resurrected on the Wii and in order to gain some wooing points to earn the love of your life, you've got to succeed in the minigames. Here are descriptions of five of those minigames:

The Warriors get nerfed! Nope, they were not hit by the nerf bat. They were turned into... Action figures! From Mezco Toyz comes the mini versions of Luther, Cleon, Cochise and Ajax - all in their 70's retro glory. Along with them are the Baseball Furies, in the face paint of your choice. They come in clean and dirty variants (whatever that means), and some come in limited editions. The limited edition blue faced Baseball Fury retails at US$ 749.99, while the others range from US$ 17.99 to US$ 449.99. See the rest of the crew after the jump! |

Ever wonder how life was a street thug in the '70s? Rockstar Games will take us on another trip to gangland with this new PSP port of The Warriors. We can look past the funky hair and the tacky vests when we remember that this was based on a 1979 movie of the same name.
Anyway, you saw the official trailer just a couple of days ago. Now this new video features just how much violence it takes to make it on the virtual streets. Also, here's some helpful info to get to know the Warriors:

"Sometimes you wanna go... Where everybody knows your name. And they're always glad you came..." Fans of "Cheers" might be more than just cheering for the upcoming title to be released this Wednesday on Xbox Live. Let the taps of retro-loving let lose: Root Beer Tapper is about to be served.Time to get your fingers warmed up for the fast-paced reflex game. Published by Midway Games, it'll go live at 1 a.m. PST for 400 Microsoft Points. Old-school as the graphics might be, it has HD support and will include both single- and multi-player modes, as well as co-op and versus. Wild Hare Entertainment, the same folks working on Etrom: The Astral Essence, has just announced that their upcoming PC fighter, Rag Doll Kung Fu, has reached gold status and is now set to kick North American ass on February 12.If this is your first time to encounter the game, all ya have to do is think of it as rag dolls gone string crazy as they pull off the weirdest Kung Fu moves evarrr! The game is heavily mouse-dependent as players move their rag doll characters via analog movement with the mouse (much like you would with puppets on strings). Featuring 16 levels of story mode, a retro-style kung fu film, single-player mini-games including Ninja Onslaught, ChuChu Wing Pooh, Rag Doll Soccer and Rag Doll Athletics, players will also be able to import graphics and customize/construct their own characters. Rated M by the ESRB, the Rag Doll Kung Fu retail box will also include custom skins, an 11 X 14 poster, and a 28-page manual and will sell for US$ 19.99. |

Three new PSP games, three Konami classics. From the same guys who brought you the Metal Gear series, their retro shooter games have made a comeback in the Japanese market, with people's eyes glazing over in glee. The portable versions for Twin Bee, Parodius, and Salamander were just released last week, each costing ¥ 3000 (a little less than US$ 25).
If you weren't able to play these games back in the day...well, some might agree you probably missed half your life. There's no word yet if you can redeem yourself from that though. Konami hasn't mentioned anything yet about bringing the PSP-versions over to other shores, but still, their Gradius Collection is making us keep our hopes up. We want power-ups, Konami! Wanna know how much of your life you've missed? Check out these vids! Parodius Collection: The two other vids are behind the "Full Article" link. Power-up! Power-up! |

Retro gaming time, folks. The gameplay video below - courtesy of GameVideos - features the first level of Konami's Contra III: Alien Wars. Check it out.
In this classic SNES shooter, you can either play by your lonesome or join forces with a friend and battle your way through six stages of nonstop running and gunning. Oh, and jumping, too. And dodging bullets while you're ten feet up in the air. Insane acrobatics, man. You can also grab power-ups - which include spread shots, homing missiles, and laser shots - to give yourself an edge and lay a really grand hurting on some alien behind. You can grab Contra III: Alien Wars at the Wii Shop Channel for 800 Wii Points. |
