Rerofumi, maker of the PSP homebrew games TGCS Block and TGCS Cave, has come up with a novel way to spread homebrew joy for the PS3. So, to save people the trouble of having to master Linux, he decided to add a CD boot of the Linux OS with the file instead. As Rerofumi himself writes in his readme, "Anyone can enjoy homebrew software in it being easy to operate Linux in PS3. But installation work is difficult." His English may be somewhat sketchy, but we can certainly understand the troubles with installing Linux. We also know that some people are just overwhelmed by those bits of code that scroll below that penguin, and therefore prefer not to tap into the PS3's full potential. Anyway, he's also added a PS3 version of the Lunavader game he made for the PSP (which is a Space Invaders clone that's just cute as heck, and fun to play, too) to the whole bundle. However, with a rather hefty file size of 80MB, it's taking some time to pick the thing up from the internet. In the meantime, you can download it by visiting his webpage, and we'll try to see if we can upload it onto our servers ASAP. As a special treat, he also has a flash movie link on his site, showing the Linux boot in action as it starts his game up. Just be sure to check his readme for directions, and learn to partition your PS3's hard drive for another OS while you're waiting for the download to finish. Enjoy! |

After more than a month's hiatus, Rerofumi is now back in the scene with another homebrew game, TCGS Cave. You guys might remember Rerofumi's other TCGS games: Invader and Block, which I bet a lot of you guys had a lot of fun with.
This is how Rerofumi describes TCGS Cave (according to Google Engrish at least): "Way it does not strike to the wall, the cave the sufficient simple rule which keeps advancing. Time attack 3D edition and, the retro there is a 2D edition meaninglessly, two degrees is tasty with one grain." Errrr...right. We're not sure about this one but based on the readme, TCGS Cave is based on a game show "CAVE" where the basic principle is to go through the halls (or walls, whatever) as fast as you can without crashing into them. Cool thing about it though is you can choose whether you want the game in 2D or 3D version. Rerofumi describes the 3D version as a time attack race game with three stages all in all using SDL + PSPGL. As for the 2D version, Rerofumi says it has a "very retro taste" to it, where the controls for the game is just basically Left/Right to direct your movement. Here are the controls for the 3D version:

After bringing you TCGS Block, we have yet another homebrew game from Rerofumi, and this time, he wants us to check out his TCGS Invader (a.k.a. pspLunavader), which is basically your good old Space Invader game. Zap out the aliens (at least they look like aliens to us) lined up in front of you. You, by the way, will take on the role of a firebullet-blowing bunny out on a killing spree. Sounds fun, huh? It's not as easy as it seems though, 'coz while you're zapping out these creatures lined up in front of you, some of them will be blowing out their own fireballs as well. So the key is to balance shooting and swerving to avoid their attacks. Also, there'll be an annoying princess-looking creature who will cross your screen, just begging and daring you to go shoot her. It won't be that easy to follow and kill her though 'coz you'll also have her multiple "minions" shooting stuff out at you. But we gather you'll get major points if you do manage to zap her out. Also, we would advise zapping out the fellas in the front row first, because as each level progresses, the minions go lower and lower to gang up on you. The readme file is in Japanese, but the game's easy enough to figure out so you won't really be needing that. Just use the left and right buttons to go, uhh, left and right (*slaps forehead*) and the circle button to shoot the enemies. We'll just let you check out the game for yourself, but we'd love to hear what you think about it. Click on the download link below and you're all set! Download: [TCGS Invader] |

If you've been keeping yourself updated with the homebrew games we feature (AND constantly update) here in QJ, you'll never complain about being bored with your PSPs. Oh yes, sounds like we're bragging but it is true yenno, we really do make sure that we live up to the 'updates' in "pspupdates" to bring you the latest buzz on anything and everything that has to do with your beloved handhelds.Anyway, enough with the wooing, we're here 'coz Rerofumi, the same guy who brought us the Jpegbook and TextIndexMaker, has posted a new block game called TCGS Block where the goal is basically to break through the lined up blocks by bouncing your balls strategically on the paddle. And to make things more fast-paced, you can release and use multiple balls to break through the blocks and progress through all 10 levels. The game actually reminds us of a PC game from the yesteryears but we just can't remember what it's called. Anyway, for game controls, you use the up/down button to move the paddle, the circle button for shooting balls, and the L/R buttons to speed up the paddle. This version currently has only one background image and two tracks for the background music but we expect Rerofumi will be adding some stuff soon if the feedback's all good. Check out the game for yourself by clicking on the download link below. Go on and unleash those multiple balls! Download: [TCGS Block] |
