It's great to see that an indie developer has made it to the same level as other big shot studios. According to Develop's list of most successful game studios, Rebellion Developments - the studio that developed The Simpsons Game (the PSP and Wii versions) and Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron - is Europe's leading independent developer. Details in the full article. |

Rebellion Developments, creator of the original Aliens vs. Predator game on Windows, have hinted that its new game similarly entitled Aliens vs. Predator for the Sony PlayStation Portable was made exclusive based on logistics. Tim Jones, head designer at Rebellion, also described available player modes, control schemes, movie tied-in content, and the new video game's PSP exclusivity. According to Jones, Rebellion had little time to complete the game adaptation for Fox's Christmas movie treat, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. This problem of logistics pushed them to accomplish the game on a platform their company was already developing several titles for: Sony's PSP. Rebellion Developments can be remembered as the creative hands behind Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron. Jones also spilled new details on the game's gameplay mechanics. Third-person viewpoint aside, controls were re-adapted to conform to the single-analog nub control of the Sony PlayStation Portable. The analog control will handle movement, while the shoulder buttons will turn the player's view to the left or right. Precision aiming is also provided for the player, though it does not come with simultaneous movement while zoomed in. Aliens vs. Predator for the Sony PSP will also come with a Survival mode, where an endless onslaught of Xenomorphs can be faced by either a single player or another buddy via ad-hoc connection. Also, though the game is based on Requiem, the game will not come with any tied-in movie content, such as footage. It will, however, carry the movie's primary plot, though the event sequencing may sport "key differences." |

The war between the Xenomorphs and the Predators rages on, and thanks to the combined efforts of both Sierra Entertainment and Rebellion Developments, we can easily take part on the go with Aliens vs. Predator for the Sony PlayStation Portable. It's time to use all the ridiculously-cool armory that all predators are kitted out with on those sneaky, double-mouthed aliens, and we see all the action in full with these new screenshots. While the movie franchise itself is already quite old, the fact remains that the concept of the shrieking, spindly-bodied aliens duking it out with heavily-armored predators sporting dreadlocks will always be cool. These screenshots, which depict some awesome-looking gameplay of the title itself, is proof of that. The predator we'll be controlling looks suitably armed to take out a horde of Xenomorphs all by his lonesome, and the Xenomorphs themselves are still scary as hell. One thing we'd really like though, besides being able to play as an alien in the game, is a next-gen remake of that side-scrolling beat-em-up on the arcade made by Capcom. It doesn't have to be 3D, just updated 2D sprites and more enemies to shoot at. That'd certainly rock. Enjoy the screenshots! More screenshots after the jump! |

Here's a rather short gameplay video for the newly-released PlayStation Portable title Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron. The clip itself was named "Killing Spree" and we get to see what user-created characters go up against the well-trained swarm of clone troopers.
This new game from developer Rebellion Developments and publisher LucasArts has a lot going for it. Aside from allowing players to come up with their own characters, Renegade Squadron also presents some of the most notable characters from the Star Wars universe such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo, and Jedi master Kit Fisto. Staying true to the vast universe of Star Wars, Renegade Squadron is also home to many features like 16 player infrastructure online play, customization options, different maps and online leaderboards. |

Circuit City is allegedly selling the Star Wars Battlefront PSP pack before its street date. On the slickdeals.net forum, poster 4orced4door claims to have purchased the product already. He has also posted pictures of both the item and the receipt showing that it came from the said video game shop.
Some posters have reportedly found that other stores, such as Target and TRU, were doing the same thing. There has been no official statement from LucasArts or Rebellion Developments regarding this, but we'll keep you posted on any updates regarding it. If you were to pick up one of the Limited Edition Star Wars Battlefront Entertainment Packs, you will be getting a Ceramic White PSP with a Darth Vader Silkscreen design on the back, a copy of Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, an AC adaptor, and a battery pack. The release date of the game is still listed at October 9, so you might want to wait till then before heading over to the store to get one just to be sure. |

Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron lead designer Mike Rosser just posted an interesting article over at the official Star Wars website regarding the PSP title's story narrator Col Serra. For those of you who are not familiar with this character, Col Serra is an old friend of Han Solo during his smuggling days.
Col Serra has very few appearances in the series making it almost totally up to Rebellion Developments to come up with the character's look. Rosser shared that they immediately knew what was the character like - gruff, battle-weary yet ultimately noble. Despite that, however, Mike Rosser and the rest of the design team had to create various iterations for Col Serra. Mike Rosser provided these explanations in relation to the image above:
