PSPThom v1.1.0 - A TO7-70 emulator for PSP - Image 1The last time we saw PSP homebrew developer Zx-81's PSPThom project was back in March with its version 1.0.4 release. This time, the dev has released another version for the homebrew emulator and it is now spiffed up with PSP Slim & Lite compatibility.

For those who missed the earlier versions of this homebrew emulator, PSPThom is an emulator for the Thomson TO7 home computer based on previous PC emulators by Sylvain Huet and Eric Botcazou. Anyway, today's PSPThom release is tagged as version 1.1.0. It now sports IR keyboard support, among other things. Here's this version's changelog from the release thread:
  • IR keyboard support!
  • New speed limiter function
  • Add option to display fps rate
  • Now compatible with custom firmwares 3.x and PSP-slim
  • Add a simple intro splash screen
  • Option to prevent the blue led to be displayed when
  • L or R are pressed
  • Support iso8859-1 fonts in print text functions
  • (might be useful to translate menus in german, french ...)
  • Bug fix and code cleaning
Anyway, PSP homebrew dev Zx-81 also released the source code for PSPThom with versions for custom firmwares 1.50 and 3.xx so there's enough love for everybody. Check out the readme file and the COPYING text file for more info.

A PSPThom screenshotIf the name Zx-81 begins to sound familiar, then you've probably been checking out the emulators section here at QJ. For today, this homebrew coder announces the latest addition to our PSP emulator collection with a PSPThom application, updated to version 1.0.4.

In case you're asking, PSPThom is a PSP-based application derived from the PC-based Thom emulator, which was built into the Thomson TO7 series of home computers. It was originally written by Sylvain Huet for MacOS, Windows, and Unix in 1996, and was eventually continued by Eric Botcazou. Now, as for this application's latest changes:
  • Disk image (in .sap format) are now supported
  • Add option to choose the Basic rom version
  • New feature to toggle automatically between Basic rom version (depending if a tape or disk image is loaded)
  • Add new commands to run tape/disk games
  • Add a file (run.txt) to specify association between
  • the disk/tape name and the name of the command to
  • Run (for example file yyy.sap -> LOADM"xxx",,R)
  • New icons from Gelon
  • New background image
Make sure to view the file's README for full installation instructions and controls. The pack also contains a GNU public license, so guys planning to make a modified version of PSPThom may want to check that out as well. And as we're on the subject of emulators, be sure to check out Zx-81's latest works for PSPSIM or PSPYape for more retro gaming info. Enjoy your download!

You think at some point, Zx-81 needs to nod off and sleep. PSPTHOM v1.0.3 proves you wrong somewhat. But now, he can take a break. Good job, Zx! - Image 1Zx-81 must subsist on Energizer batteries or something. Lately his emulators have come in little care packages, several at a time. Some staff have joked about setting up a betting pool on how many hours until Zx reveals the latest version of one of his PSP projects. Either way, he is one hard worker.

So here's the other emulator that popped in our forums, right in the heels of his MSX emu. This one's v1.0.3 of his PSPTHOM TO7-70 emulator, an upgrade from the v1.0.2 (ultimate) from way back in November. Well, changelog and download links after this, and then Zx-81 takes a well-deserved five. Even Energizer bunnies need to flake off once in a while.
  • New graphical functions with new smoother render modes. It uses the PSP GPU for rendering, it does not run faster, but it's a lot smoother. (Really, he has been into getting that GPU up and running in many of his emulators lately)
  • Bug fix in Rom file requester
  • Bug fix in keyboard handler

PSPThom v1.0.2 (ultimate)

Zx-81 has taken his PSPThom from final version to ultimate version! PSPThom v1.0.2 (ultimate) has the following features:
  • Bug fixed in Render mode x1.25 (missing pixels)
  • Added help menu
  • Increased the volume
According to Zx this should really be the last release unless other major bugs surface.

PSPThom v1.0.2 (ultimate) is one of the best emulators for the Thompson home computer running on Mac OS, Windows, and Unix. The emulator faithfully imitates the TO7-70 mode and we'll throw in a little history lesson here. The TO7-70 was introduced by Thomson in 1984 with 16 colors, 48 RAM & 22 KB ROM, and with the better keyboard. End of lesson. Now back to PSPThom v1.0.2.

To install PSPThom v1.0.2 (ultimate)
  • Unzip the zip file, and copy the content of the directory fw2.x or fw1.5 on the psp/game directory.
  • Put your snapshot files generated using the Windows version of Caprice32 on "snap" sub-directory, or disk image on "disk" sub-directory.
  • It has been developed on linux for Firmware 1.5 and i hope it works also for 2.x using the great eloader (0.99x).
As for this homebrew emulator's controls (there are three different mapping: standard, left trigger, and right Trigger mappings) and other technical stuff, just have to check the readme file.

PSPCAP32 screenshot

Once you've got him started, there's no stopping him, and it looks like Zx-81 is on a roll! Never disappointing the homebrew scene, the French emulation porting machine has came along to update one of his old favorites. With PSPThom being updated earlier today, Zx-81 has been working hard to bring us yet another great homebrew emulator for the PSP. PSPCAP32 is an Amstrad CPC emulator for the PSP that emulates the Amstrad CPC 8-bit home computer range (models CPC6128, CPC464, and CPC664), and it now features many new options such as the ability to save and load a distinct setting file for each games as well as other file management options.

Here's the full changelog for PSPCAP32 v1.1.3 gold edition:
  • Emulator menus reorganization (new menu for settings)
  • New feature to save and load a distinct setting file for each games
  • Delete files option (in the file selector)
  • Added speed limiter option
  • Screenshots are now saved in PNG format instead of BMP
  • Multiple keyboard mappings feature developed by Pou-chan in PSPMSX: You can now toggle between 3 different keyboard mapping using Trigger keys
  • Added help menu
Two binary versions (for 2.5/2.6 and 1.5 FW) and the source code have been included in the download. Have fun playing Juggernaut and other CPC classics on the go!

pspthom snap1

Just a few days ago, we told you guys about PSPThom v1.0.0, an emulator for the classic Thomson TO7-70 home computer. And as we said in our previous coverage of this emu, the original credits for THOM go to Sylvain Huet and Eric Botcazou, but it was Zx-81 (a.k.a. Ludovic.Jacomme) who ported it to our trusty handhelds.

Zx says that this should be the final release BUT if there are major bugs found, he'll fix 'em and release another one. So if you guys find glitches and bugs, please tell us about it so Zx-81 can get to work and fix them, alright? Oh, and Zx also says that this package is under the GNU public license. Here's the list of stuff that's changed for zx-81's PSPThom v1.0.1:
  • Add Sound support
  • Add Render modes (Normal, x1.25, x1.5)
  • Add second joystick
  • Clean Virtual Keyboard
  • Code cleaning
Installation instructions, controls, how-to's on loading tape files and key mapping files are all in the wonder that is the readme file so make sure you check it out before you install this baby on your PSP's. Enjoy the time warping gameplay experience fellas!
