If you loved that classic homebrew game, Jump Gunnar Jump, from the guys over at PSPMM but want a change of scenery (and character), then Stealth Kill's mod, Jump Luigi Jump, should be right at the top of your download list. Yes, the homebrew developer famous for his stab at a PlayStation Portable version of Counter-Strike, CS Combined Assault, has tweaked the game's code just a bit to replace the cute jumping sheep with a cute jumping plumber. Here's what to expect with Stealth Kill's Jump Gunnar Jump mod, taken from its release post:

PS2DEV has hosted The Fourth Creation game competition which called for homebrew games for the PS2 and the PSP to be sent in. It seems a lot of people are labouring hard to make this summer very much worthwhile, and contests like this and our very own Summer Homebrew Competition does make the oh-so-many leisure time pass like a breeze. The winning entries for PS2DEV's competition will receive a PSP or a PS2 donated by people from gamefreax. Here's a list of the entries (PSP) for The Fourth Creation 2006 game competition: Jump Gunnar, Jump from PSPSMM This 2D platform game let's you control of what hardhat describes as your "seemingly average every day sheep". But believe me, Gunnar the sheep is no 'average everyday sheep'! He does run and jump as well as the ordinary sheep but he walks with his two hind legs (an image reminiscent of George Orwell's Animal Farm) and has a gun to protect himself. Click here to know more about this game. Download: [Jump Gunnar, Jump] Meeku's Quest - Beyond the Gateway for PSP by illfoundedmind Production Studio Meeku's Quest - Beyond the Gateway will hopefully fill the void of decent homebrew RPG titles for the PSP, and follows the adventures of a boy that must rise to to find the truth behind the make up of his world in order to save it from sure destruction. This homebrew's demo was released here. Download: [Meeku's Quest - Beyond the Gateway Demo] Break-IN by OmegaGames This one's a Breakout clone, only this time the paddle has been removed. To create a different game experience, Break-In will have the blocks rotating around the ball. This different style also allows players to enjoy the game by using just the left and right buttons, seeing the board spin clockwise and counterclockwise. For more info regarding this one, click here. Download: [Break-In For PSP] PSPTris by OObles Aside from being able to play the classic kind of Tetris that we have grown to love and cherish, now you could also play two other games - color and original. Color is of course something you already know. In this game, you have to match 2 or more balls in the same color. Read more about this game here. Download: [PSPTris] Droplets from Drakonite/Makeshift Development A game that's dominantly colored blue ocean and that displays sea creatures in the backdrop. The gameplay is not bad as well. Your objective of the game is to clear the blobs (those water droplets) off the board. To do this, you'd need to selectively fill certain blobs until they burst, causing their droplets to go floating towards neighboring blobs causing them to burst as well. For more Droplets info, click here. Download: [Droplets v1.0] There you have it, I know we won't have the final say which of these homebrewed games will win, but still, it's nice to give each of them a go to see which we personally think is the best. |

We can expect a barrage of homebrew games to come our way this week, as developers try to win a new PSP with PS2Dev's Fourth Creation 2006. Why just yesterday, we featured PSPMM's entry. Now it's time to put the spotlight on yet another entry: Drakonite/Makeshift Development's Droplets for PSP v1.0. If I were to judge this game, it's sure to get a high score. Being the water person that I am, it amused me to be playing a game that's dominantly colored blue ocean and that displays sea creatures in the backdrop. The gameplay is not bad as well.
The objective of the game is to clear the blobs (those water droplets) off the board. To do this, you'd need to selectively fill certain blobs until they burst, causing their droplets to go floating towards neighboring blobs causing them to burst as well. You start off the game with only 10 drops and are rewarded with an extra drop when you beat a level. Every three blobs involved in a combo also gives you an extra blob. Make sure to use your drops wisely, because using them all up means 'Game Over'. The controls for this game are as follows:
Try Droplets out for yourself and see why it ranks high in my scorecards. Have fun! Download: [Droplets for PSP v1.0] |

It's time for PS2Dev's Fourth Creation 2006 contest and the PSPSMM coder team presents us with their entry: Jump Gunnar, Jump. This 2D platform game let's you control of what hardhat describes as your "seemingly average every day sheep". But believe me, Gunnar the sheep is no 'average everyday sheep'! He does run and jump as well as the ordinary sheep but he walks with his two hind legs (an image reminiscent of George Orwell's Animal Farm) and has a gun to protect himself. Finding himself in the evil Shephard's gauntlet, Gunnar needs to make it to the end. But Shephard will not make it easy for our sheep. Before making it to the next level, gun-armed Gunnar needs to collect 505 of the fruits. Walking and flying enemies will make this seemingly simple task hard for you. When hit by these enemies, your health status will be reduced. Being injured by an enemy will cause Gunnar to flash for a moment. There will be flags that appear in the levels, make sure to touch them if you die so you can prevent Gunnar from having to start all over again. Save Gunnar via the following controls:
You might need the latest version of Stefano Russello's PSPBrew to make the installion of this game easier (download link provided below). The PSPSMM team has made Jump Gunnar, Jump a "mega modable supergame" and comes with a level editor and spritesheet. Also in the download of the game are the source and documentation. For info on how to mod this game, just go over the README text. There are currently eight levels in this PSPSMM release. Thanks to Wilhel1812 for the tip!
