November 1 marked the launch date of Sony's PSP Go in Japan. How well did the new, UMD-less handheld fare in the land of the rising sun? Not too well, as Enterbrain reports.

The PSPGen team sure tries hard to make good on their promises. After pushing back the launch of CFW 5.03 GEN-B for HEN due to some last minute bugs last night, now we are off to have a merrier Halloween, thanks to the finally and fully launched product. Although they were not able to overcome the bug that presented itself at the last minute, we still very much appreciate their efforts for the homebrew scene.

Last August, we reported on this "insider info" pertaining to an alleged PSP-4000, which will not only phase out the PSP-3000, but will also revive the neglected UMD format. Now, even the industry's foremost analysts are saying they won't be surprised at all if this turns out to be true. You know what they say: where there's smoke, there's sure to be barbecue.

An update just went up on PSPGen's site, and in it came the announcement that the much anticipated Custom Firmware 5.03GEN for HEN-B is in the process of being finalized. Said their teaser, "You have a PSP-3000 (or PSP-2000 v3) and official firmware higher than the 5.03? This announcement will make you happy..." Then what are you waiting for!? In stark contrast to the PSP Go's dismal first-week sales in Australia, the PS3 has been performing admirably in the region. Since the PS3 Slim's September 3 launch, the console has been outselling both the Xbox 360 and Wii.

Sony has yet to release any hard numbers for the PSP Go, but according to Sony Computer Entertainment America, the latest PSP iteration is doing a bang up job of boosting sales for the PSP platform.

Despite lots of skepticism and disinterest surrounding the new model, Sony is proud to reveal that PSP Go sales have met expectations. Believe it or not, the PSP Go has helped PSP hardware sales to shoot up 120% since its launch on October 1st.
