Medal of Honor: Airborne Operation LIVE Jump - Image 1

We're sure most of you have downloaded and played the Medal of Honor: Airborne demo and we're sure you'd love to know that the makers of the WWII video game (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) has ushered in an event for it as well.

Operation LIVE Jump will go live this weekend, featuring a number of events:
  • Play & Win Sweepstakes - Friday to Sunday
  • Play Against the Dev Team - Friday night
  • Play Against the PMS Clan - Saturday Night
  • Leaderboard Tournament - Sunday
Players are automatically entered into the Play & Win Sweepstakes once they play a multiplayer match. Five lucky paratroopers will be selected every hour from the entries. You will also be able to play against the Electronic Arts Los Angeles devs and the PMS clan, an all-female gamer faction. Will you be able to play at par against the people who made Medal of Honor: Airborne and the PMS?

Lastly, the Leaderboard Tournament will bring a really sweet prize: an Xbox 360 Elite signed by the dev team and other great prizes. The other great prizes include Medal of Honor: Airborne Microsoft Points (400 points), 360 accessories, faceplate, t-shirts, and caps.

Ready to jump in? Don't forget your parachutes for this weekend. For more info about Operation LIVE Jump, click the Read link below.

Wired reports that professional gamer Bonnie Xena Burton, 15, a member of the PMS clan, is making a killing, I mean, a living teaching older men the "art of pwnage." Apparently the style of teaching over at gaming-lessons is good enough to attract celebrity clients like NBA player Luke Walton and Richard Jefferson, and rappers Lil Dru and Moka Blast.

When Bonnie isn't competing professionally, she earns $25 an hour teaching/helping players how to better their game. The job definitely pays more than baby-sitting. Well, it is still sorta like baby-sitting, only it's older men who are in need of some skillz training, and not overactive four-year-olds.

When you think about it would you rather learn Halo from a fat smelly "hardcore" dude that looks like this:

a bit too harcore...

Or would you rather learn/practice Halo with a (we apologize in advance to those who find the term gamer-girl offensive) 15 year old gamer-girl ? Common sense says...

The Frag Dolls own us. It's always an interesting sight to see when news makers like Reuters talk about video games. It makes you realize that we're slowly getting more exposure and acceptance the way rock and roll and television managed to grow out of obscurity and into the public consciousness.

Of course, it would probably be better if we were talked about in the news for good reasons, and for wholly positive things. Women in gaming, while stereotypical as a topic of discussion for news and features articles are always worth talking about, if only because you can be sure that there are gamers who are better than you and are female.

The Frag Dolls (pictured left) of Ubisoft and the PMS clan are perhaps two of the most prominent female FPS gaming clans out there, not only because of their skill, but also because their core members look good. While the common statement among lady gamers happens to be promoting games and gamers of all genders (rather than focusing on men), does it really help that these female gamers look good?

Even Frag Doll Morgan Romine mentioned that "by virtue of being a novelty we usually got a bit of attention." Until women gamers are treated beyond the stereotype, without the focus of women in games being some sort of sexual stereotype, it seems very unlikely that people in general (and gamers in particular) will really offer full-fledged respect to gaming as a medium and female gamers as a norm, regardless of looks.
