PMP AVC screenshot - Image 1

The PSP videophiles may want to hear this heads-up, as we announce the latest update to Madruscoe's (aka moneytoo) PMP Mod AVC. Given that the app is a favorite for guys running on AVC converted files, we thought you'd be happy to hear this bit of news, which also makes mention of the new tweaks made to make v1.02M-K easier and faster to work with.
  • Added directory support
  • Changed scrolling in filelist is a bit optimized (faster)
  • Changed left (analogue pad) = go parent directory (..)
  • Changed for speed (cpu) change hold R trigger and press L trigger (to avoid accidental press)
The controls should function the same as in v1.02M-J (the previous version). We follow-up this good news with our customary recommendation of viewing the bundle's accompanying README and FAQ to help newcomers work this application properly. Also make sure to check out the forums for any further updates and hints Madruscoe may provide. Enjoy the download.

PMP Mod AVC - Image 1

Homebrew coder Madruscoe (aka moneytoo) dropped by our own forums today with an update for PMP Mod AVC. This program is for FW 1.5/OE users for playing AVC converted files with high quality and in full resolution.

There are a lot of changes with v1.02M-J, but probably the most important one is a bug fix related to freezing whenever the last (bottom) video is deleted. Long file names for videos can now be deleted, and the no PMP video screen has been fixed.

Madruscoe said that the thumbnails are .png files with 96x54 px resolution. They can be created on a PC; they should be correctly named to work with PMP Mod AVC; should a .pos file is generated, .png will be overwritten by a new screenshot.

Here are some of the controls as provided by the coder:

Analogue stick in filelist:
  • up/down = up/down
  • left = exit
  • right = play
Headphones/remote control in filelist:
  • forward = down
  • back = up
  • play/pause = play

Coolness. More movies! - Image 1Coolness. More movies! - Image 2

Madruscoe has put up yet another release of PMP Mod AVC. This version adds some nifty new graphics, as well as some fixes for issues people found with v1.02M-G.

Now some of you have questioned the purpose of this application in light of the new movie functions available in 3.03 OE-B. Well, it's simple. First off, you have subtitle support. If you're watching something foreign, or have a lot of episodes of Bleach on your PSP, then something with subtitle support (if you know how to put the requisite subtitle files in) would definitely be useful. Second, and this is up for some debate, is video quality. Depending on what you're watching, it's probably only the film buffs who'll notice the big difference. There's no need to berate someone over it.

Best of all, using Madruscoe's program is a matter of choice. He's put a lot of work into it and it takes a dedicated coder to come out with new releases that quickly. Whether you use his work or not, it's only fitting that we give him the respect he deserves for offering a great app at rock-bottom (dare i say nonexistent) prices.

As always, check the readme for additional information, and feel free to check out the linked forum thread if you want to ask him (posting as moneytoo) or some other people about your movie queries. Oh, and props to him for a nice looking XMB background and a visual of "M.A.S.H." on the second screenshot.

Version 1.02M-H (14.01.07) tuned by Madruscoe:

  • Fixed subtitles (.srt) disappeared after 30 minutes of playing (thank you bootsector)
  • Added thumbnail support (thanks to JasonV and his Mod)
  • Added support for headphones/remote control and analogue pad in filelist
  • New graphics by MAK

PMP Mod AVC - Image 1 PMP Mod AVC - Image 2

A new day, a new PMP mod update. Lots of people get to modify their media players, but one mainstay in the homebrew scene (and one whose releases are very much looked forward to by many) is Madruscoe. His PMP Mod AVC allows you to play videos on your PSP in full resolution (and it can support subtitles). Also known as moneytoo in our QJ forums, Madruscoe updated his application once again - uh, correction: twice again.

The January 11 releases have these changes:
  • Version 1.02M_g (11.01.07) tuned by madruscoe:
    • fixed freezing when displaying osd without inserted battery
    • fixed completing description of controls (some left)
  • Version 1.02M_f (11.01.07) tuned by madruscoe:
    • fixed single line subtitle limit in .sub file (now if its more than 62 chars, new line is added so subtitles are displayed correctly - no more gray strokes)
    • added extension .avc is supported and displayed in filelist
    • added basic support for analogue pad (only up/down in filelist)
We're uploading the most recent one (v1.02M_g) below. For those who are new to this player mod, take sure you check the readme file. All pertinent info can be found there.

For PSP neophytes wondering what a PMP Mod AVC is, it's obviously a homebrew app. What it does is it allows firmware 1.5 users to play full resolution, high-quality AVC movie files converted using the PMP AVC Muxer. That in turn means you don't have to upgrade to higher firmwares.

Going back to our topic, moneytoo (aka Madrusco) has announced the release of PMP Mod AVC v1.02M_e on the boards. And for those wondering what he tweaked since version "c:"

Version 1.02M_e (10.01.07) tuned by madruscoe:

  • fixed deleting (not disappearing dialog window)
  • added elapsed/remaining time display (press X + start)

Version 1.02M_d (09.01.07) tuned by madruscoe:

  • added description of controls (press square in filelist)
Remember to view the README in the zip bundle for more details. Moneytoo comments that he thinks the biggest update for the pack was the addition of the time display. Given how easily most of us lose track of time, this is a welcome addition to the 'brew. Kudos to moneytoo - this is not poor programming! Keep it up.

Madrusco (known as moneytoo in the QJ forums) has today proved that you don't need amazing programming skills to give something back to the community. He has released an updated version of the PMP Mod AVC subtitle mod despite describing his own PSP programming skills as 'poor'.

Well, they may be poor by his standards but by looking at the changelog, this mod should be very useful for any PMP Mod AVC user. It has some pretty good practical changes. See for yourself...here's the changelog:
  • Added display subtitles up, when the bar is shown
  • Added left battery life time on status bar during video play
  • Added deleting only .pos file (press SELECT - O to confirm)
  • Added time and battery on status bar during video play (audio stream and loop hidden - no use for me)
  • Fixed file info date display (maybe only my problem cause of using xvid4psp)
  • Fixed units Mb -> MB etc.
  • Added deleting .pmp including .sub, .srt, and .pos files
  • Added actual time display (press Start button to refresh)
  • Added battery status (percent) and time left
Take a close look at the screens above if you aren't entirely sure what this mod will do, but if you fancy a change of scenery and would like the mainly cosmetic updates added to your PMP Mod AVC player then simply download below. This application will work on both 1.5 and 3.03 OE-A.

PMP Mod Skin

Those that are using the PMP Mod AVC v1.02 player will be pleased to know that Jonny has updated the PMP Muxer AVC today, bringing it up to version 1.01. This version of his original PMP Mod allows firmware 1.5 users to play full resolution, high-quality AVC movie files converted using the PMP AVC Muxer without having to upgrade to firmware 2.0+ or use DevHook.

These files will then play in Jonnys PMP Mod AVC, and although I have not tested it, should still work with Raphael's PMP Mod AVC subtitle version. This small updated to the PMP Mod AVC Muxer allows raw stream or AVI as an input, making it even easier to convert your everyday video files into the full resolution PMP format.

As with all of Jonny's releases, the source code is also available to download. Feel free to modify it if you wish!

PMP Mod AVC

Raphael has released 2 new versions of his PMP Mod variant with subtitle support. These new versions are Jonny's latest PMP Mod v2.01 with subtitle support and PMP Mod AVC v1.02 with subtitle support. This is great for previous users of Raphael's PMP Mod subtitle versions as well as 2.0+ users, as PMP Mod v2.01 now works on firmwares 2.0-2.6 using either the TIFF exploit or the GTA eLoader. Although PMP Mod v2.01 with subtitle support has already been released, the addition of 2.0-2.6 support and many new fonts make it much better.

Here's what Raphael said: "Many many thanks to tommydanger for his big help with getting this to work with the tiff exploit, too. This wouldn't have been possible without him most likely. Along with this I also have a new set of fonts available for download, that cover the whole region of ISO8859 charsets. So if you do not find a matching font in the release or just don’t know which one fits your needs, try with these fonts."

Raphael has also created a font generator tool for windows. To use, just start the tool, select a windows font with the correct charset, a filename and press "generate". All these files are available for download below. Happy full resolution media playing! For developers and coders alike, the source code for the specified version is included in the download. Full details on the fonts supported can be found in the forum release thread.

PMP Mod AVC

Jonny has released an updated version of his PMP Mod AVC homebrew AVC media player for the PSP. This version of his original PMP Mod allows firmware 1.5 users to play full resolution, high-quality AVC movie files converted using the PMP AVC Muxer without having to upgrade to firmware 2.0+ or use DevHook.

Just two days after the last PMP Mod AVC release comes this version which fixes some sound problems such as random pops that were mainly audible with headphones and adds a new requested feature - a loop option which can be toggled on and off using x + right trigger. To convert files into the PMP format, there is an included muxer where width, height, and fps of the video need to be specified. However, since x264 has been patched to write a file with the width, height, and fps of the video, normally, you do not need to provide the info manually.

As with all of Jonny's high quality homebrew releases, he has also released the source code for developers and coders alike to oogle at and modify at their own discretion.

PMP Mod AVC

Jonny has released a variant of his PMP Mod homebrew application for the PSP. PMP Mod AVC lets you play media files at full resolution on your PSP using the combination of videos converted into the .PMP movie format and a fully-functional homebrew media playing application on your PSP.

As you've probably guessed from the title, PMP Mod AVC supports the AVC video format - great for firmware 1.5 users, as they won't have to upgrade to 2.0+ to play AVC files! Jonny would like to thank magiK (the author of PMF Player) for unlocking the AVC capabilities. magiK has:PMP Mod AVC
  • Unlocked the avc decoding api
  • Modified x264 to make the stream fully psp compatible
  • Followed/helped Jonny with the decoding api
This is the first version of the program, and a little bit of knowledge about AVC files is required in order to get them to play correctly on your PSP. Here's what Jonny said:

Compatible streams can be created with x264, here are some command line examples:
x264 --crf 25 -A all --level 3 --pictiming --aud --no-psnr --thread-input --progress --output out.264 in.avs
x264 --bitrate 512 -A all --level 3 --pictiming --aud --no-psnr --thread-input --progress --output out.264 in.avs

In the PMP AVC Muxer you need to specify width, height and fps of the video. I've patched x264 to write a file with this information. If the muxer finds this file, information here will be used instead of the one specified manually (so, in a normal situation, you don't need to specify the info manually).

This special version is completely separate to the original PMP mod, and because this is the first version, has reduced functionality over the full PMP Mod, with reduced options. It runs at 222Mhz at around 67fps, with MP3 decoding responsible for the small amount of lag. AVC files need to be converted to the .PMP movie format using the included muxer. As with all of Jonny's projects, the source code is freely available to download and modify to your hearts content.
