PimpStreamer v1.0 screenshot - Image 1Not long after the beta update, PSP homebrew developer DickyDick1969 released the PimpStreamer version 1.0. This version adds a lot of improvements to the Sony PlayStation Portable application, like better support for 3.xx firmwares and  fully graphical fast scrolling fonts.

PimpStreamer v1.0 comes in an executable installer file (Windows format), so it shouldn't take much effort other than following instructions to install. If you get it to work, you'll enjoy better streaming than previous versions, and notice less energy consumption when listening to MP3 audio files. There's also the DNS lookup feature.

Those running on 1.50 firmware can use the old PMP_MOD-based version which will be installed along with v1.0. The latest version of PimpStreamer is not based on PMP_MOD and it's made from scratch according to the developer, but has the functions available from previous releases of the app.

Pimpstreamer Beta 1.0-2 - recoded with GUI for FW 3.xx - Image 1

About a month after PiMPStreamer v1.0 beta rolled out, homebrew developer DickyDick1969 served out version 1.0-2 that should sort out problems regarding video/audio synchronization. PiMPStreamer version 1.0-2 beta is version 1.0 beta recoded from the ground up and should still be compatible with the 3.52 M33-4 firmware.

You'll notice that the archive sits pretty light at around less than 1 MB, and that's because with version 1.0 beta onwards, the storage-heavy ffmpeg libraries were taken care of. It should sport a new graphical user interface for users of firmwares within the 3.xx range, though many of the functions are still not fully ported just yet.

The developer also added two new features just to sweeten the update: color is now sprinkled in, as well as a one-button quit option (TRIANGLE) to exit from a movie being played. There is no bundled readme in sight, so just place the fully extracted folder over to the GAME folder under PSP to set you off in the right direction. Don't forget that you'll need to run media on a PiMPStreamer server on your Nintendo Wii, PC, or Sony PlayStation 3 and list them into the config.txt file.

PiMPStreamer v1.0 - Image 1

Based on a thread tremianor started over at QJ.NET forums, we've just found out that developer dickydick1969 has recently finished work on PiMPStreamer v1.0 Beta. This application, in case you're asking, allows you to stream video and music from your  PC, PlayStation 3 (PS3), or even Wii, into your PSP. A lot's changed since PiMPStreamer's version 0.90a from last May, and dickydick1969 states that this release is a 3.xx-only, full graphical version. Here are the rest of version 1.0 Beta's noted changes:
  • Tested on Custom PSP Firmware 3.52 M33-4
  • This time from the ground up, without any heavy ffmpeg libs to carry with.
  • not based on pmp_mod, uses mp3 hardware decoding and plain software decoding (no me.prx needed)
  • color info not right yet, need to implement yuv->rgb
  • fully graphical
  • a beta, not all functions yet ported
  • when in movie no stopping yet (test with small movies)
  • sound still skippy
Guys who wish to pick up more info regarding this application can drop by dickydick1969's blog, via the source link. Or, you can also opt to visit tremianor's thread over at the QJ.NET forums for other related discussions.

PiMPStreamer v0.91 with full Wii playback - Image 1

It was just a couple of days ago when homebrew developer DickyDick1969 updated his pet application PiMPStreamer to v0.90a not to mention the addition of a nifty test Eboot for detecting errors. During that release, focus was given to the Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) compatibility feature of the PSP application.

Today, another new version was released but Wii users will be benefiting from it more. In case you don't know, PiMPStreamer allows users to stream audio and video content to their PlayStation Portable (PSP) unit from PlayStation 3, Wii and even PCs. In version 0.91, it is now possible to have full playback on the Wii console itself. The changelog reads:
  • No more pimpy color borders. Movie will always try to go full screen.
  • Full length FLV playback on Wii. Tested with some long movies
  • Better UI while playing (click on movie).
  • Adjust volume and play/pause.
  • Tested on Wii.
Like we said, no changes was done to the PSP binaries in PiMPStreamer v0.91. But just the same, PSP users can still check this out if they want to. Have fun!

PiMPStreamer - Image 1

It should be remembered that homebrew coder DickyDick1969 came up with the new version of application PiMPStreamer. To those of you still not familiar with this program,  it basically allows users to stream audio and video content from their PC units, PlayStation 3 (PS3), and even Wii onto their PlayStation Portable (PSP).

The last release was on version 0.90 and the most exciting thing about it is that the application has been Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) compatible. However, it came to DickyDick1969's attention that several users were having problems with the program especially those who are on CFW 3.10 OE-A'.

So what the coder did was created a test EBOOT that will print the error code. Apparently, if you put this EBOOT in the "PIMPSTREAMER090" directory on your PSP, you will get the error "8002013A". Also, it was found out that CFW 3.40 OE users are also having problems because it misses a kernel library (memodule.prx).

If you want to try and see if you're having the same problem, the test EBOOT has been provided below. Also, you might want to give PiMPStreamer v0.90a. DickyDick1969 wishes to be informed with any other future issues.

PiMPStreamer! - Image 1

DickyDick1969's media streaming application is back with a new version. PiMPStreamer v0.90 is here, and with it comes the promise of WPA compatibility.

For those who haven't heard of PiMPStreamer, it's an application that'll allow users to stream audio and video from their PCs, Sony PS3s, and Nintendo Wiis to their PlayStation Portable (PSP) in real time. Now, the new version apparently adds WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) compatibility, which should mean increased connection security, among other things.

PiMPStreamer works for 1.5 original and 3.X custom firmware, with the setup automatically installing it for both setups. An added addition to the program is that you can easily quit the homebrew application by pressing the home button. In any case, give it a try, don't forget to check the readme files, and don't hesitate to drop DickyDick1969 a line for more information.

PiMPStreamer banner - Image 1

Homebrew coder DickyDick1969 has just announced that the PiMPStreamer homebrew application has been updated to version 0.83. For the guys wondering what this application does, PiMPStreamer is a PC-based application that allows users to stream video and MP3 files to their PlayStation Portables. It's also recently been updated to stream videos for the PlayStation 3's (PS3) and Nintendo Wii's browsers, with this latest version carrying MP3 support for these two consoles.

In case this is your first time using the application, here are the setup instructions: Install to PC, run PiMPStreamer, configure Opera (or the PS3 browser) to the PC's IP address at port 3333 (configurable).

Also added to version 0.83 is a set volume and play/pause function, which DickyDick1969 says can be activated by clicking on the application's little hat icon. Lastly, the author also reminds PSP owners to use the PSP binaries, not the browsable FLV streamer.

The PC and PSP installers await below for your downloading pleasure. Make sure to view the file README for the PSP version for proper installation instructions, usage details, and changelog lists. Enjoy!
