WipEout Pulse - Image 1

In a recent interview with Kikizo, Tony Buckley, the game director for the WipEout franchise at SCEE Studio Liverpool, revealed a few more exciting details about their upcoming PSP title, WipEout Pulse. One of the main points of interest about the game is its revolutionary customization mode. Here's the gospel according to Buckley:

I've got a customised skin, downloaded it onto the Memory Stick, and these are ones that have been opened as part of the game, someone has done a tiger skin at work, a zebra skin, and these are obviously designs that stand out a bit... we expect people to be more creative than this though.

Once people have created their ship they can download it into the game. We don't want to be anal about the visuals but they are a massive part of the game. So why not share it, you know, with Photo Mode... at any point of the game I can hit start and pause it, you've got your usual options and photo mode is one of them.

You can fiddle around with the camera and turn the HUD on and off. You get a shot that you like and then hit X when you're done, and it saves it to the Memory Stick... all the shots in my presentation earlier were from Photo Mode. And it's also a bit of fun. It's that idea that once you've got it, you can throw it up onto the website or do a competition to design a ship, and you know, winner gets a date with me, or whatever!

The music in the game can also be customized to suit a player's tastes. Players can create custom playlists by simply putting MP3 files in their Memory Sticks. "Race to Walking on Sunshine if you like," says Buckley. "We'll allow you to do it."

And what about a WipEout title for the PS3? Buckley says that "it's obvious" they would be doing a WipEout title for Sony's next gen video game console, but declined to reveal more details aside from pointing towards "an announcement in August". WipEout Pulse is slated for a September release.

A lot of people got pretty excited about WipEout Pulse, the next installment in the popular WipEout franchise. We promised to update you guys as soon as we got more info on this title, and so here are some details about WipEout Pulse.

According to Eurogamer, there will be 24 reversible circuits and seven game modes (including a Training section) in this PSP game. There will be eight new in-game racing teams, and there's also a new element called the "Mag-Strip" which temporarily locks ships to the surface of the track. You'll need it, too, as it allows level designers to include some sick loops and vertical drops.

New ships and weapons will also be making an appearance, and gamers will be able to blast their enemies off the tracks while listening to new licensed music from Mason, Loco Dice, Stanton Warriors, and others. If that's not your kind of music, you can also listen to mp3s stored in your Memory Stick while you play.

Multiplayer's a go, and players will be able to race against their friends through ad hoc and infrastructure modes. WipEout Pulse also has a Photo Mode so players can take some screenshots of their ships and post them online.

ZGT4Kazunori Yamauchi spoke to Weekly Famitsu about the next Gran Turismo game. The next GT game will officially be called Gran Turismo HD, and will appear exclusively on the PS3. Unfortunately, however, this is no GT5. The game will be a port of the original ps2">PS2 game 'Gran Turismo 4'. Updated graphics and play control will be the main features of the game, as well as high definition display. Perhaps the new game will somehow incorporate the PS3 controller in some way?

Yamauchi also mentioned that the idea for the game actually came from the Photo Mode in GT4, which allowed players to take high-resolution stills. "I thought it would be incredible to see these stills animated in real time" he said.

However, for those expecting a new GT at PS3 launch, sorry. The best you can get is a port of one you've already got. A new GT game can be expected though, so don't worry too much. For now, you can look at the latest batch of the game's screenshots.

Ó

Project Gotham Racing 3Bizarre Online has just announced that they're holding a Photo Mode Competition for Project Gotham Racing 3. This coincides with the launch of the long-awaited Style Pack, which allows players to take their Photo Mode pics "out of the box" and onto their desktops.

The contest has four categories:

Best Car Photo
Just snap a picture of your favorite car in an inspired pose. Make sure you frame your ride against an appropriate backdrop for maximum points.

Best City Photo
Explore the cities of PGR3 and find your favorite landscape shot. Take a picture and you're all set for your entry for this category.

Speed
For the Speed category, you've got to take a picture that gives out the best impression of speed. Just blurring around won't work though. For a chance to win, you've got to set up your shot on an appropriate piece of track with the best angles.

Style
Show off your mad driving skillz and snap a photo that proves you are the best.

The winner in each category will get a limited edition PGR3 faceplate for their Xbox 360, a Bizarre Creations t-shirt that's only been previously available to Bizarre staff, and a framed professional print of their photo, signed by the Bizarre Creations team. Each category will also have one runner-up who will receive an assortment of goodies from Bizarre Creations.

To enter, first make sure that your copy of PGR3 has been updated to the latest version. Enter Photo Mode, line up your best shot, then visit the "Your Saved Photos" section in the "Gotham TV" menu to upload your photo to the net. Visit www.projectgothamracing3.com and sign in using the Passport account you've previously linked to your Gamertag. Choose the images you wish to enter in each category, and then e-mail the .JPGs to compo@bizarrecreations.com

Of course, every contest has to have rules. Here they are:
  • You may enter ONCE in each of the categories (making your entries come to a maximum total of four). If you enter more than once in one category, only your first entry will be considered.
  • All entries must be taken directly from Photo Mode without any post processing, retouching, or photo manipulation. That means no Photoshopped entries.
  • All entries must be sent to compo@bizarrecreations.com. They won't accept entries through any other method.
  • Make sure you include your full, REAL name with your entry. Any unnamed entries will be ignored.
  • The closing date for this competition is August 31st 2006, at midnight GMT.
